SALEM THORN THOUGHT HE GOT OVER IT. Obviously, not completely, no he didn't think he'd ever get over it completely. But, enough to stop losing himself in his mind as he memories cane rushing back.
"Salem, want to play a game?"
The young boy looked over, turning his head in confusion. The older one smiled at him, a hand stretched out.
There was a tiny part of Salem that had told him not to. But, that was also the same part that simply wanted to read. So, with one last look at his book, he slid a piece of paper into the book, closing it before taking the hand and jumping down."What kind of game?"
"It's fun, promise."
Salem followed, holding the older man's hand as he stepped up the stairs. He followed even as the older one brought him into a room and closed the door.
"Bruce," the boy frowned, turning around to see the older man staring at him. "I don't see any board games."
"Oh, that's because it's not a board game, it's a different game, Salem. Salem. Salem."
That wasn't part of the memory. Bruce hadn't said his name that many times when explaining the 'game'.
"Salem!" The voice wasn't Bruce's either. But, he did recognize it, he just couldn't tell where from. The curiosity got the better of him, still slightly panicked, he looked up and was met with the panic and worry on his father's face.
"Dad?"
"Salem," though his father still sounded worried, he did sound slightly more relieved.
