India is a vibrant country with thousands of colors and rich heritage. There have been numerous contributions towards the building of our nation. India as we see it today has been possible because of the hard work and sincere devotion of our forefathers. They have immensely contributed to the rich heritage of this sacred nation. It is our responsibility to take this legacy forward and this is when the Fundamental Duties come into the picture.

As citizens of India, we enjoy many fundamental rights that are granted to us by our constitution but at the same time, we also have certain responsibilities towards our nation. Keeping this idea in mind Fundamental Duties were introduced in our constitution in article 51A in Part IVA. This is made to ensure the obligation of the citizens towards the growth and development of India.

They were introduced in the era of Indira Gandhi. At first, there were 10 fundamental duties but then the number increased to 11 when one more fundamental duty was added in 2002 during Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.

The interesting fact about fundamental duties is that they are not enforceable by law but it is our duty to ensure our contribution to the Nation. We must rise to new areas of life with full zeal and enthusiasm. For any nation, its success is defined by the success of its citizens. Each person's individual development directly impacts the growth of the nation.

At any moment whatever we do aligns with the impact that we are going to make as an individual in our nation's success. Therefore it is necessary to be aware of our fundamental duties.
