"You've moved on. Accepted your past trauma,"
"That's what I was told," I replied.
"And what good will that do you?"
"I-" I paused. "I won't have nightmares anymore,"
"Oh, I forgot, the nightmares," Ultron said in a baby voice. "You know why you wanted it. Your fear holds you down. Your fear keeps you weak. Your fears made you want to curl up and turn invisible. You wanted to get rid of that, but it is impossible. The only way you can get rid of it is by starting over,"
"You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers," Memories flooded through my head. "You pretend to be separate... to have your own code... something to make up for the horrors... but they are a part of you.
and they will NEVER. GO. AWAY."
Like always, Loki's words echoed in my mind, but it wasn't the same. I didn't feel scared. I wasn't afraid. I wasn't mad. But I wasn't calm, either. So... what was I?
"That is what I'm doing- starting over. Making a new beginning. Maybe you should try it... or not. You won't live to see it anyway,"
I felt his metallic arm hit the back of my head. He grasped the back of my helmet in his hand, charging up his repulsor. I pulled at his grip once again, but he was relentless.
"Any last words before you disintegrate?" he growled.
I couldn't respond immediately. I was so overwhelmed by a singular, strange question: if I wasn't scared anymore... if I wasn't angry anymore... then what was I?
"Nothing?!" Ultron shouted at me.
I wasn't a hero. I wasn't an Avenger. I was a hacker. I was a coder.
"You humans are pathetic," Ultron scoffed. "Say goodbye,"
I stuck out my arm, unsure of what I was doing. I felt something, though. It felt like charging up my repulsor or like the wind was blowing into my hand.
"What are you doing? Waving?" Ultron sneered. "Waving goodbye to your planet?"
I felt something. It was like I was attracting something magnetic, two strong, magnetic forces, trying to click together.
"That's it, you're being embarrassing," Ultron said. I could almost see him rolling his eyes. "Just say something-"
I felt it.
It hit me like a feeling of power would, fueling my adrenaline and giving me another shot at winning the game.
I enclosed my fist around it, spinning around and slamming it into Ultron. Thunder crackled and boomed approvingly above me as I did so.
I zoomed at Ultron with electrifying speed, hitting him across the face once again. He retreated, soaring away from me. Before I could follow him, I was surrounded by his minion robots once again.
This time, I was more than ready.
I slung it at one of them. It shot from my hand, smashed the robot, then came flying back. The robots all attacked at once after that, but I wasn't afraid.
I wasn't afraid of anything.
I spun myself around with terrifying speed, holding it out and smashing it through all of their faces with the speed of lightning. I watched as the robots fell from the clouds. I glanced at my hand to see just what exactly I was holding.
It was not something I'd ever fought with before- the handle was a light brownish color and had circular engravings around it. At the bottom of the handle was a leather strap that had somehow found its way around my wrist. On top of the handle was a rectangular metal head with a strange, ovular engraving on the side.
"Did you guys just see that?"
"Ultron can harness lightning now?"
"What was that?"
My comms went crazy with questions and comments.
"No, my friends," I heard Thor's voice over the comms. He sounded quite delighted. "I believe that only that sort of thunder and lightning combination could come from an object such as my hammer,"
"Was that the Vision, then?" Steve asked.
"No," Tony's dumbfounded voice said. "That was Bryce,"
Glancing back at my hand, I realized that he was right.
I was wielding Mjolnir.
I wasn't scared.
I was worthy.
