Tony Stark's POV
"Why won't she respond to my calls? Tony? Answer me!"
Tony couldn't respond to Pepper. He couldn't tell her what happened. How could he have let this happen?
He'd exploded at her... and "exploded" was an understatement. He'd all-out yelled at her. Looking back, he was surprised that she'd had the heart to yell back.
"Tony?"
Tony set down the phone and put it on speaker, sitting down in a chair and burying his head in his hands.
"Tony, where is she?"
"She hasn't left the tower. She's fine. Kid probably hasn't reached her phone yet," Tony lied.
"It says that I'm blocked," Pepper stated.
Tony sighed. "Alright, fine. We got into an argument,"
"What sort of argument?!"
"I...I tried to tell her that she shouldn't try and play hero because I don't want her to get hurt, and... well... she..."
"What did she do, Tony?!" Pepper demanded.
"She stormed off,"
"How far did she storm off to?!"
"She stormed her way to-"
Tony paused. He had no clue where she was, and she wasn't answering her phone.
And by she wasn't answering her phone, he meant that he had blocked every last one of them, including Nick Fury and Maria Hill. She'd even gone as far as to block Nat(who was not happy with this). They were all demanding answers from him, so here he was with his fourth explanation of the day.
"To where, Tony?"
"...we don't know,"
He could practically hear Pepper's rage through the phone.
"I give you... ONE JOB..." she snarled. "PROTECT. YOUR. DAUGHTER. NOT THAT HARD OF A JOB, IF YOU ASK ME!"
"I know, I tried, Pep, I got her back from Ultron, I made her the suit-"
"WHAT IF ULTRON KIDNAPS HER AGAIN, OR WORSE, KILLS HER?!" Pepper shouted. "I can't trust that you're going to save her again, Tony!"
"Look, Pepper," Tony said, his voice rising. "This is my fault, and I-"
"IT'S VERY WELL YOUR FAULT!" Pepper protested. "YOU MADE ULTRON! YOU GOT HER ANGRY! YOU'VE BEEN THE REASONING FOR ALL OF THIS!"
"-and I'm going to make it my job to get her back!" Tony argued.
"No, enough is enough, Tony. I want Nat or Steve to bring her back this time. Maybe that'll give you some time to contemplate being a father,"
The phone made a sad beeping sound, signaling that Pepper had hung up on him.
Tony sighed again and dragged his hands through his hair. How had this happened again?
"My real dad never shouted at me,"
"My real dad never shouted at me,"
"My real dad never shouted at me,"
Her words echoed in his head, haunting him like a ghost.
If he could've gone back, he would've changed a lot of things... he wouldn't have shouted, definitely... he wouldn't have told her that she wasn't an Avenger... he wouldn't have called her his "employee"...
To heck with changing things, he would've taken a completely different approach.
Now, he had no idea where she was.
Tony reached over, picking up his phone and calling her for the 17th time that night. The dull tone played until the voicemail message.
"Hi, you have reached the Russel inbox! Sorry I missed your call. Please leave a message, and I'll call you back as soon as possible," said Bryce's voice.
God, he would've given anything to hear her voice for real at that moment.
Tony paced around his room, pocketing his phone.
If she could find him, who's to say that he couldn't find her, wherever she was going?
He could beat her at her own game. He was Tony Stark. He was Iron Man.
"FRIDAY?" Tony called.
"Yes, sir?" responded the AI.
Tony grinned. "Locate Bryce's weapons system."
