Long time no see! I was listening to my night playlist ("sleep vibes", aka acoustic and angst) and I got the idea for this one night. This could count as an action scenario for the Avengers but I don't go too deep into mission details... or is it fluff? Buckle up, folks. You have a lot of control with this one. You can decide what you want: mission details, amnesia, long-term injuries. The list goes on and on.

Possible mentions of profanity, violence, blood/gore, and themes of trauma (none graphically described in the scenario).

Missions never went exactly to plan; there were always bumps along the road, hitches in the path

Missions never went exactly to plan; there were always bumps along the road, hitches in the path. One factor could set off a series of tragic events or prevent them. Living to see another day is not guaranteed. One's life is compromised on the battlefield but it was a risk you had been willing to take if it meant thousands, if not millions, more could be saved. You hardly ever backed down from operations both local and foreign, especially if you felt really connected to the case, but perhaps it had gone too far.

One month. That was how long it had been since your last sighting.

The loss of one member on the team had taken a toll on everyone. Regardless of the fact that you were gone without a trace — no body to recover but no sign of getting away — it was a tragic incident that left the rest of the Avengers in grief. It was inevitable that there was loss when facing evil in the face. Properties were damaged or obliterated, people turned out missing or injured. One less friend, however, hit too close to home. The responsibility fell on their shoulders, and that alone was difficult to cope with as it was. Having the sinking feeling that you had paid the ultimate price when death could have been avoided only added to the guilt.

[ L/I ] had been hit particularly hard. Day after day, it did not get easier to deal with the fact that you weren't there. It was daunting, waking up to not being greeted by your smile or catching a glimpse of you down the hall. Uninvited pity was what they received when they clung to the hope that you were somehow out there. There was no communication and you had never shown your face after declared missing. Everyone else had just about accepted the prospect of you being dead. After all, there had been no body to prove that you were no longer there with them, therefore giving one reason for them to believe that you weren't a lost cause.

It was one day like any other. New York was ever bursting with life, something exciting at every corner, but the hours dragged on for what felt like years. [ L/I ] was spending their afternoon the way they typically did, trying to quiet their mind by preoccupying themselves with activities and hobbies that required their utmost concentration, but it was all in vain every time. They could only focus in increments of thirty minutes, at the very least, before they spiraled into thinking back to their last moments with you. Their memory was beginning to get foggy and it startled them. They could lose themselves for hours trying to convince themselves that every detail they thought of was correct. They were right in the middle of battling the violent, guilt-ridden thoughts that tormented their conscious when word came that someone had entered the premises of the Compound.

You had returned.
