"What's going on?" I heard Mrs. Miller asked, but I couldn't see her in the pitch black darkness. Luckily for us that I have a flashlight connected to my keys. There is a can opener, a small swiss army knife, and tiny scissors. I also keep a pack of matches in my back pocket and peper spray in my front pocket. My father, when he was actually cable of raising a child and himself, took me to self defense and disaster prep classes incase anything happens. I prepared for fires, hurricanes, floods, break ins, assaults and luckily for everyone here blackouts.

"Don't worry everyone. The rain must have short circuited the fusebox connected to the house. It can be fixed in the morning when all the rain clears up. It is important that we all stay calm and find someway to get some insight on the weather. Do you still have spare flashlights and a crank-up radio in your basement?"

"Yes. The basement is too frightening to go in alone though, especially now that there are no lights" Mr. Miller said

"Lets all go in together. It would be unfair to have one of our groups in the dark while we wait for the other to return"

"Follow me everyone. I'll know were to find the essentials in the basement. Keep your flashlight aimed in my direction Nick" Dawn said. I basically get to stare at Dawn without anyone noticing. Thank you Mother Nature

Dawn led the way into the basement down the eerily creeking wooden stairs past dusty shelves and one too many spiders. This is practically a in-and-out mission. As soon as Dawn gets the goods we gone from here

"I found everything" Dawn passed out flashlights to the others and put  the old crank radio underneath his arms "Lets head out autobots"

"Never say that again" We left the basenment glad that we were free of that terrible place

"What now?"

"Someone needs to crank the radio while I tune it into a news station" I said under the light of my flashlight

"I call dips on cranking the radio!" Mike yelled

"If we have to resort to canabolism we eat Mike first. Agreed?" Everyone nodded but Mike

"What?! You too dad. I thought you cared about me. I'm not surprised  you agreed mom"

"Your father is too big to cut up, Dawn is more useful than you, and we need Nicholas to survive this black out since he is trained to handle situations like this. We all know you'd cry in the corner as soon as we all fall asleep" Mrs. Miller stated everything as if though they were complete facts

"That only happened in second grade!" This family is too much

"Would it make you feel better if we ate dad next?"

"Yes"

"Are we just going to plan which one of us will be are next meal or can we get to work?" Mrs. Miller complained getting impatient. One thing you'd never want to do in your life, make Mrs. Miller impatient

Dawn quickly got to work cranking up the radio and Mike grumbled in the corner (With no tears in his eyes) and I found a local news station talking about the storm

"This is going to be the storm of the year folks. The rain is pouring at a dangerous speed and does not seem like it will stop until late Friday (three days from know). With continous rain like that city is mostly likely to flood. It is not safe to leave your homes. Schools and most public buildings will be closed till further notice. It is best to stay calm and what ever you do DO NOT leave the building you are currently in under any circumstances.  The city may be evacuated if the rain is still pouring the way it is on Friday. Good news is that electricians are working on getting the power back on in most homes and is is likely to be back on by tomorrow"
