Desiring attention was one thing that everyone had in common. There is no better feeling in the world than receiving love, acceptance, and appreciation from others. Whether it be by just a couple friends or a huge audience, it makes you feel important; you feel needed, like you have a purpose on this very earth other than spending it alone in the darkness. That being said, what better day to enjoy your 24 hours of fame than on your birthday; the one day of the year that you can be the center of attention without being criticized for it.

The second your eyes had opened an immediate smile had spread across your lips. You had waited 365 days for this special occasion to roll around again. Countless hours had been spent the night before picking out a casual but cute shirt and skirt combo that you were very proud of.

Your parents were startled at your unintentionally loud footfalls as you raced down the stairs in your beaten up sneakers. They had been with you through thick and thin, so why not proudly show them off on your special day?

"Calm down there, incredible hulk." Your dad commented. You stuck your tongue out at him as he pulled you into his loving embrace. "Happy birthday, sweetheart."

"Thanks, pops." You grinned, before you were gently tugged from him as your mother hugged you.

"You're growing up so fast, Y/N." She said adoringly, gazing at you with such fondness you were reminded of how lucky you were to have her. "Happy birthday, love."

"I can't believe you're 17." Your dad popped back into the conversation, looking at you in disbelief. "Man, I miss the days before you were able to talk. Now that you know how, you never stop."

"Oh, whatever." You laughed at him with a playful roll of your eyes.

He chuckled and pressed a kiss to your head, doing the same to your mom. "I should head off to the office. It's best if I get out of here before the waterworks ensue. From the both of you."

"Shut up!" You and your mom shot back jokingly, your mom grabbing a nearby hand-towel and tossing it at him. He caught it with a victorious grin and threw it back, slipping out the door before he could get hit again, but not before shouting a quick love ya! before the door was entirely shut.

This day was already going off to a great start. You smiled to yourself, knowing that, for once, the world was going to be on your side.

The second your dirty sneakers stepped foot into Beacon Hills High, you were attacked with hugs and shouts of happiness.

"Happy fucking birthday!" Malia screamed, bringing the stares of many passerby in the hallway. You and your other friends immediately shushed her, nonetheless laughing at her excitement.

"Thanks, Mals." You wiped a tear from your eye due to laughing so hard.

"Here, we all pitched in and got you something." Kira shoved an envelope in your face, nearly taking one of your eyes out in the process.

"Open it!" Lydia and Allison yelled.

"Okay, okay!" You laughed, obeying their excited demands. A gasp escaped your lips as you gazed at the contents of the package. Impatiently, you tugged the concert tickets and waved them in everyone's faces, unable to form a coherent statement. The girls laughed at your reaction, glad they were able to make you happy.

"How the hell did you get these?! I thought they sold out months ago?!"

"We bought them while they were still available," Allison began with a mischievous grin.
