Part 3 of 'Failure to be a parent'

"Hey..Jay." Nya smiled softly, sitting on his bed and gently peeling the covers off him.

Indeed, he had been crying.

Nya felt her heart break. "How..how are you doing?" She exhaled shakily, shuffling back a little when he sat up.

"Physically? Fine. Mentally?" He didn't finished his sentence, instead he started shivering again and pulled his knees up to his chest, as more tears begin to fall from his eyes again.

Nya sat next next to him and placed her hand on his back, running it in circles to try and calm him down. "Shh," She muttered.

"I-I just- I don't get it Nya."

"Don't get what?"

"I just don't get why I had to be abandoned because of that. I'd rather have not have my element and actually know what it's be like to have a birth mother than have that crappy reason." He mumbled.

Nya swallows. "B-But then you would've never met me." She felt her heart break a little.

Jay perked up, immediately regretting what he said. "No no Nya I'm so sorry, I-I didn't mean it like that I-" He cut cut off my the smaller wrapping her arms around him. "Jay, it's fine honey. I know you didn't mean it, it's alright." Her comforting words then levelled his guilt an anxiety down, but the questioning about his parents stayed the same.

Once they pulled away, brown eyes met blue ones. Nya reached out to his hand, and intertwined it with her own. Jay squeezed it gently.

"She..she hated her old past." He muttered. "She hated being a lightning master. She hated it all..and the only reason she abandoned me was because she didn't wanna do it all again.." His voice was covered in complete heartbreak and hurt that made Nya feel so, so bad.

"And my 'dad' is no better. He didn't even protest to my mom when she said the idea, he just went off to his stupid acting career and being my f*cking idol for all my life." Nya rubbed his back softly, not knowing any verbal ways to console him. Yes, she had parent problems but this? She has no clue. And it's killing her.

"But the worst part is that my ma and dad knew about this all. They knew that Cliff was my birth father..and that Libby didn't want a kid. But never told me." Tears dropped onto the water masters shoulder as Jay sobbed, the whole situation finally sinking in and hitting them both like a truck.

The black haired rubbed circles on his knuckles and back. "Shh. I think..that for now, you should take a break from seeing them." She suggested. Jay looked up at her. "Maybe all five of you just need to calm down, and take a breather from this situation. I know it's been killing you for years now Jay, but it's hard for Libby and Cliff to take in that they were coming to save you, and that the reason finally spilt out."

The lightning elemental sighed shakily and looked down, taking in the information that was just said to him. He used his sleeve to wipe his tears.

"B-But I feel like I can't trust any of them anyone. They-They lied to me Nya! Real parents don't lie to you!" He covered his eyes with his hands again, the shivering making a return.

Nya rubbed his shoulders gently. "You're right, real parents don't lie.." She really couldn't argue with Jay's statement, I mean, her parents never lied to her, she generally thought they'd passed and they didn't have anyway of telling her that instead they were captured.

But then, an idea came into her mind. And something else.

"I have an idea." Jay lifted his head up, to see Nya softly smiling in front of him.

"You can come and see my parents this weekend. They're honest, and they love you." Jay blushed lightly. "And they're gonna be your mother and father in law."

"What did you say Nya?"

Nya sighed shakily, nervousness running through her veins. "You heard me, they're gonna be your mother and father in law."

"W-What?!"

"Jay..from the moment I looked into your eyes..all those years ago, I knew we had something. I knew we were meant to be. And..well..I guess I was right. You've been there for me ever since that day, and I can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for me. I love you, so so much. You're the best person to come into my life, and I never wanna lose you. So.." She got on one knee and pulled a box out.

"Will you marry me?"
