WYATT

The age long feud was slowly breaking off into a much-needed reconciliation and I’m proud that I played a tiny part in it. Coop might still hold some unfinished grudge towards the blond dude but at least he was taking a sure step towards forgiving and forgetting and then we could all move on from it.

I wished it was all be easier. Sometimes you wished too much in life especially the easy way out part but I’m a grown up now. I’m eighteen and I knew that some guys my age in certain countries had already signed up for the army, or worked their asses off to support their family or worse, died way too early due to easily curable dieases.

I had never really questioned nor complained about my sexual preferences beforehand, but I do wish that it wouldn’t be this complicated. I chose not to lable myself and I chose not to stick with just one sexuality, after more than fifteen years of realizing that attraction shouldn’t really be singular in nature.

“Look at what you’ve done!”

A beautiful lady with a nice pixie cut shrieked at me, her hands flapping frantically up and down towards the floor. I didn’t notice that my idea of a grand entrance would actually cause some sort of mess. I sure did make Dennis the Menace a run for his pocket money.

“See? I told you again and again, there’s no need for firecrackers.”

“Yeah, I heard you the thousandth time man.”

I could feel Will shaking his head at him for my cheeky insolence, but the guy needs to lighten up. I didn’t really cause any major harm to anyone, unless you count a spilled casserole a threat to humanity. I rushed over to help the Arabic looking lady, with string of curses in French thrown at the poor, cold and no longer edible coleslaw.

“I’m so sorry, mam.” I kneeled down facing here since damage control is also part of my expertise since I learnt how to walk. The trick is to admit your mistake and shine them with your biggest smile. “Here, lemme help you clean this up.”

“How old are you? Ten?”

“I know I shouldn’t have brought the firecrackers but… never mind, there’s no need for excuse.” The fresh summery night air seemed to have also cooled her down a bit and before I could even touch the sloppy vegetable mix, she slapped my hands away.

“Don’t touch that with your bare hands! Here use this instead.”

I like her more and more now, much like my not-so-strict-once-you-get-to-know-her-better kind-of way. Will was sniggering from a close distance behind us, probably gossiping about me already, with the Korean lady and Shawn as accomplices. I scooped some of the spoiled and wasted coleslaw – the five-seconds-rule may no longer be applied in this case – and poured it back into the plastic casserole. If it were – like Ma would say, God forbid – made of glass, I would’ve probably be in a much bigger trouble so yeah, it’s the right time for me to wipe my own forehead proverbially in my mind.
