Ella's POV- February 2020

There was no need to drive to the restaurant since it was a couple of streets down from the hotel Gavin was staying at. After the full course Italian meal, I was stuffed and thankful for the walk.

"Tonight was lovely," I told Gavin as we waited for the crosswalk light to turn green.

He put his arm around me and kissed my temple as he pulled me closer to his side.

"Anything for you"

We crossed the street and continued our way to the hotel.

As we walked, he asked.

"You're okay with walking in those heels right? Because I can carry you"

"I'm okay" I assured him.

He nodded and smiled down at me.

"Thank you"

"For?" I wondered.

"Flying here so that we could spend some time together"

He continued,

"I've been able to visit you every two weeks, and I won't be able to do that once baseball starts"

Obviously.

"I have to focus more on baseball, Ella"

Wait, where was this conversation going?

"Are you breaking up with me?" I asked as I stopped walking

"No! Why would you think that?"

I looked at him to see his eyes were wide in confusion.

"You just said you need to focus more on baseball" I pointed out.

He tilted his head as he mumbled.

"I did say that"

He shook his head.

"But I didn't mean it like that"

Oh.

"I meant that while you will still be a priority, we won't see each other as often"

I nodded my head

"I don't know where I'm going to start the season"

LA, he was going to be on that opening day roster.

"I can't be that guy who expects you to fly from New York to visit me"

I reached over and covered his mouth.

"Let's talk about it in your room" I suggested.

He shook his head and took a hold of my hand.

"No, I'd rather this be cleared up by the time we step foot in there"

Okay?

"I did not expect to like you this much in the short span we've been dating" I noted.

His cheeks flushed at the revelation.

"We both agreed on a long-distance relationship" I stated.

He nodded.

"It's only until May" I reminded him.

The school year ended in May.

"For now"

Well, yeah.

"It's going to suck, but we can do this," I told him.

He smiled.

"Yes, we can"
