The Basement

My day to day life as an Office Manager isn't always glamorous but once in awhile, just like learning all about the sex elevator in detail from our building operator (that story is from one of my first posts so read that for context), I get to hear but more importantly, see a side of our office that no one else gets to.

Today, as I stand in the lower back lobby of our freight elevator (sorry, sex elevator), waiting for a vendor to arrive with our snack order, this is my view which unless I'm crazy, kinda looks like a door to solitary confinement right? A super heavy metal door with the window blocked up with a few air holes? I mean come on. Shivers right down the spine.

Anyways, our building dates back to 1854 so as you can imagine, the basement is probably what nightmares are made of. While this heavy door is normally locked, today was my lucky day.

For all those who are wondering, no, I did not venture down to see what was there. I didn't need to know. I had a fear as a child of something grabbing my leg as I would run up from my basement so even at 38, I didn't need to relive this.

NOTE: for all those who were hoping I would actually go down this creepy set of stairs and report something really interesting, or as Ivan mentioned, maybe find some sort of random treasure, I promise that the next time this door is open, I'll go down.....maybe.

Just for fun, as I don't think a lot of our staff have seen this, this is our building (knows as the Hutchinson building) back in 1857, a few years after it was built so as you can imagine, this building has seen A LOT.

And this is us now =)

Anyways so there you have it, a small peek into our creepy basement that hopefully I never have to step foot in.
