Valerie's POV

1 Month Later

I got out of the shower and went back to the room I've been staying in at my aunty's house. I quickly got dressed into my pyjamas and looked at my phone as a habit.

'1 missed call from blocked number' it read.

The last few week I have been getting calls from a blocked number, sometimes I miss them but sometimes I just ignore them. If it's someone who actually wants to reach me they should know that I don't answer blocked numbers.

"Val, sweetums." My Aunty called from the lounge room. "Would you come her please, dear?" Yes, she's very fond of pet names.

I slowly wandered to the lounge room and stood in front of my Aunty who was sitting on the couch.

"Yes?" I questioned with a smile.

"I think it's time you went to school. A new school, obviously." My smile faded at the devastating news.

"Do I have to?" I whine.

"Yes, Valerie. It's illegal for you not to be educated."

"I'm old enough now that I don't have to go to school." I argued. I didn't want to go to a new school, somewhere where I would he to meet new people and make new friends. Maybe leaving my other school wasn't such a good idea...

"Think about you mother... Would she want you to drop out?"

"No." I mutter quietly in defeat.

-

A new uniform, a new timetable. New teachers and new classrooms. New bitches to put up with and new geeks to feel sorry for. You don't think about all the new things you will encounter when moving to a new school until you are standing at the front gate and staring at the daunting building.

"You must be Valerie Marshall?" Apparently when you move to a new town that is tiny and then you make plans every citizen living in that town will know what you are doing within the hour.

"Yes." I said quietly.

"Good, good. Come with me." The woman takes me by the elbow and drag me along with her. I awkwardly turn around to wave goodbye to my Aunty.

I didn't listen while the woman explained everything that I heard once before I just blanked out and got lost inside my own head.

I was directed to my first class after the first bell and took a seat at the back. I heard sniggers and an 'ew' when I walked in.

Usually, I would show them. Show them who I really am and why they shouldn't mess with me but right now I couldn't be bothered. I couldn't be bothered because it would be a waste of time, they wouldn't have to deal with me for long because I'm running away.
