You were a frail and little child
When I laid eyes on you.
You hugged me to yourself and smiled:
A light out of the blue.
You sleep while holding me all night:
A warm, sincere embrace.
But then I think that it’s not right;
This cannot be my place.
You see, I’m only stuffed and sewn –
A mockery of truth.
I’m destined to be worn and thrown
When you have left your youth.
They’ve taken my thick hide away,
Replacing it with down.
And they have left me here to stay
In my own tears to drown.
Without my talons, and my claws
How would I shield you now?
Fragile, ailing, I’m at loss;
Would you please tell me how?
Time came, and you stowed me away
Amid the flutt'ring dust.
Here in this cruel place I'll stay
And fade too, if I must.
My little playmate, listen well
If you can this song hear.
Goodbye -- this with my heart I tell
I'll miss the times you're near.
