Dahlia and Thor's presence were expected when they returned from their morning adventure. Fleur and Loki were left to occupy themselves in their siblings absence. Fleur spent her time playing her musical instruments, while Loki tried not to wonder why it was that they had been requested without him.

On the balcony, Dahlia sat happily next to her mother. Next to her was Thor, who was just as happy in his parents presence and the food laid out in front of them.

It wasn't Queen Freyja or Queen Frigga that requested their presence, it had been Odin himself. While both Queens thought and feared the same, Odin did not do what was expected. Instead, he asked them simple questions.

They ranged from politics to personal matters, and while they both thought it strange, they answered anyway. They both felt privileged to sit with their parents.

When they were finally dismissed, and Odin hadn't truly gotten anywhere with his idea, Dahlia and Thor walked down the grand staircase together.

"What do you believe that was about?" The young Princess asked the older and taller God.

Thor did not know. "My father sometimes gives me little quizzes. I am to take over the thrown in half a century, and some times he likes to ask me questions about it."

A haunting thought crossed the Princess' mind. "You don't believe that... my mother will be stepping down from her thrown and passing it to me?" She innocently asked.

Thor shook his head. "I do not believe so. Perhaps they felt it appropriate to have both of us there. Since we are the eldest and the next heirs."

Dahlia then stopped at the last step and looked at him. "So that means you and I should be friends. Like they are? So it will be easy to rule?"

"Most likely. Though I do not believe we shall have any issues in the years to come." Thor then walked.

He did not think of the reasons as to why Odin might be asking them questions together, he was innocent in that way too. Arrogant too. He would never think that Odin planned on marrying him; to ensure that someone could keep a handle on his son. And Odin believed that that woman would be Dahlia.

When they entered the music garden, where Fleur and Loki were waiting, they both smiled. Dahlia went to her sister and wrapped her slim arms around Fleur's even smaller shoulders.

"And what have you found yourself doing?"

"I dreamt of a melody. I can't quite seem to remember it." The little sister replied.

"It will come to you. Give it time." Then Dahlia went to sit next to her new friends on the soft sofa.

"What do you do for fun?" Thor asked the eldest Princess. "Besides your secret pond of Pegasus."

Dahlia thought for a moment. "Do you enjoy climbing trees?"

"Come on!" Dahlia laughed from above them all. "It is not hard at all." Her bare feet laid perfectly balanced on the thick branch. She was nearly twenty feet above them all.

"Dahlia, if mother finds you climbing trees, you are going to be scolded." Fleur yelled up to her sister.

"Not if we don't get caught, dear sister." Dahlia moved from branch to branch easily.

Thor looked up at her and then to his brother. "I do not remember the last time I climbed a tree." Then he grabbed the lowest branch and swung himself up.

"Oh dear." Loki looked at the youngest Princess. "I do believe we will be all that's left after they fall to their deaths."

Fleur smiled. "Then I will be the Queen!"

Loki looked down at the little girl, seeing how alike she and Dahlia were. Though of course, their differences were much greater. Dahlia had a wild heart that could be seen by anyone looking. And she enjoyed the little things, while Fleur seemed as if she was groomed to be a Princess.

"Loki, won't you please come join us? It is very fun." Dahlia looked down at her friend. "Fleur, at least get on one branch."

The God of Mischief did not have to be asked twice. He mimicked his brothers actions, though very awkwardly, and climbed the tree slowly.

Even Fleur climbed on one.

They all spent time in the tree, laughing and swinging from the thick branches. Thor and Dahlia were the most out going, while Loki watched in awe and Fleur worried her sisters life.

By the time that the sun had started to set, and they were called for dinner, they felt as if their day had lasted forever.

Dahlia was more than exhausted when they got to the hall to eat their dinner. Even Thor was yawning.

This time at dinner, Dahlia went around and sat with some of the other Light Elves. Dahlia loved to do that; she enjoyed the company of them and typically, she sat with someone else every other day.

While Loki wished that she had sat next to him, as he loved when her attention was only on him, he did enjoy the company of the younger Princess. And a watchful eye on the older one.

After their meal, the same as the night before, the two families settled into the music garden. Dahlia was asked once again to sing for the family, and while she longed for her soft bed and the shelter of sleep, she couldn't refuse the All-Father. No one could.

"Sing us something new, won't you child?" Frigga nearly begged.

Loki could tell that she was not in the mood to sing, even though Light Elves loved to do just that. He wanted to say something, but he didn't have the words to say anything.

So Dahlia sat on the piano next to her sister and told her the song. It was a lovely tune, one passed on for generations. It had been known since the very beginning of Alfheim, after the war, and when the Light Elves came home. The song is for the Light Elves that did not come home after the war.

As soon as Fleur played the first note of the song, Queen Freyja recognized it, of course, and bowed her head.

Dahlia's voice sounded just as lovely as it did last night. "Lay down, your sweet and weary head. The night is falling, you have come to journey's end. Sleep now, and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling, from across the distant shore. Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see, all of your fears will pass away. Safe in my arms. You're only sleeping."

Loki noticed how higher her voice sounded when she sang next and he swooned for it. He truly thought she was the most beautiful thing in the universe.

"What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come to carry you home"

"And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water, all souls pass. Hope fades, into the world of night, through shadows falling, out of memory and time. Don't say, we have come now to the end. White shores are calling, you and I will meet again. And you'll be here in my arms, just sleeping."

"What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come to carry you home."

"And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water, grey ships pass, into the west."

A small tear fell from the Queen's eye and even Odin saw the beauty of the song; for they had lived through the war when many good people had not.

"How beautiful." Frigga said. She glanced at Loki and saw the look on his face again. Then she looked back at the Princess with a worrisome face. She feared that the Elf in front of her would be her sons biggest downfall.

***Disclaimer: The song used in this chapter is (one of my favorites since I was like 5 lol) obviously of not my own creation. It was written for the Lord of the Rings movie. All credit goes to the genius writers of it. Isn't it just lovely?
