The Lake

The waves reflect the sky

As the lake sits steady and sweet

As the boats go over and out

Pulling children to their feet

As the docks bounce up and down

With the readiness of a storm

The water, bright and blue

Its waves are trying to warn

But children, they don’t see

As they bounce and jump and play

Going up and down and all around

Between each of the waves

Grey sky is warning too now

They still don’t have a clue

They’re playing in the water

As the waves, they grew and grew

With each warning ignored

Lightning hops aboard

And with a great and mighty shake

The lightning hits the lake

The children start to cry

As the bolt descends from the sky

They all fall to their knees

And their suffering starts to cease

With burnt and blackened locks

Not one child recovers from this shock

They still lie today

Under the lake and around

Just waiting to be found

So remember-

When the lake is kind enough to warn

Get out of the water before the storm
