The Soldier

A battle cry.
The war begins.
Each side hopes
That their side wins.

In the midst
Of the chaos
A soldier thinks
About his loss

His friend that died
Ages ago
By a traitorous spy,
His mortal foe

He thinks about it,
Day and night
It gives him a reason
To continue the fight

But off the field
The thought haunts him
It takes the stage
And all others grow dim

His nightmares protract
Into every day
He starts to believe
Hope is too far away

“You will never win”
He has been told
By gruesome Despair
As He tightens his hold

He loses all hope
As he walks through the fields
He gives all his weapons
To the enemy and yields

His last thoughts
Were of his best friend
And so this young hero’s
Life comes to an end
