Darkness slowly
Closes in once more.
He winds around my fragile heart
Threatening to crush what remains.
He caresses my cheek,
And whispers seductively in my ear,
"Let me in, love.
I am all you have left,
For your friends have betrayed you,
Your family abandoned you,
And your lover has left you."
I fend off his advances,
Clinging to the smallest thread of light.
"Listen close, my love," he whispers still,
"Join me for eternity, and I will never betray you,
Nor abandon or leave you."
His words pierce me deeply,
Speaking to some primal part of me
That longs to be loved.
For an instant, I am off my guard,
And in that instant,
Darkness seizes his chance.
With a first and final passionate kiss,
I lose my grip on that thin thread of light,
Leaving my soul forever lost to the void.
