The nurse walked towards me, with blood on her gloves that I presumed was my brother's. My mind wandered and my heart sank. She didn't look happy either, in fact, she was more drained than I was.
With hesitation in my heart, I gathered the courage to ask her, "Is he alive or dead?"
She didn't respond immediately. My legs felt like noodles out of all the standing I had done for the past 5 hours, waiting for the doctors to see him.
Worried as I was, I repeated my question in demand for her reply, when she looked into my eyes and said "You know the accident was fatal. From the moment he was hit till you brought him here, you know how little he could breathe. Sir, I'm sorry to inform you..."
That is where I stopped her. I didn't need to hear any further, I had heard enough.
I had been worrying the entire time whether I had hit him hard enough?
She brought me a moment of relief.
