She was 16. She had never been invited to a party before. Homeschooling had effectively limited her exposure to 'people' in general. She was very excited.
She, very quietly, climbed down the stairs in an attempt
to escape for the party.
Her mother came rushing
out of her room.
"Have I not told you that you are not going anywhere?" her mother said.
She was furious, "Mom, please. I want to have friends like everyone else has."
Her mother had had enough of these arguments by the day.
"YOU ARE A RAPE-VICTIM.
YOU CAN'T ROAM AROUND MAKING FRIENDS LIKE OTHER PEOPLE. GO TO YOUR ROOM, RIGHT NOW.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? " she yelled. Tears ran down the little innocent face, and her mother's heart melted. "Sweety, I know how much you want to go to the party. But, you have to understand. You have to stay in your room.
The world outside will point fingers at you and make you cry
for no reason, and I don't want
you to go through all of that.
Why do you think I work from home? It is a bad world, sweety.
I have been where you are today.
Trust me. We have to stay in our room."
