chapter six; olivia pov

"You seriously didn't have to come." Blake says as he leans the seat back up.

He had just woken up from a nap. We still had a couple of hours left in the drive, but I'm glad he got most of it out of the way. I don't know what would happen if he was stuck in his thoughts and he was slowly going mad because of it.

"Well I'm here, and I'm not turning around."

"What did everyone think when you told them that you were going on a trip with me?"

I don't say anything.

"You did tell them, right?"

"I told them I was leaving for a few days."

"But?"

"I told them it was a work trip."

"Liv!"

"Sorry?"

He sighs. "Why didn't you tell them that you basically forced yourself to come along?"

"I did not force myself on this trip!"

"You told me that you were coming whether I liked it or not!"

"Okay maybe I did, but you are not in any condition to drive."

"Liv-"

"You punched a brick wall. How can you tell me that you're in the right mindset to drive?"

He looks down at his beat up hand. "I can't."

"Besides, if I told them I went with you they would think we're together or something."

The car goes silent, and it's crazy just how awkward it is.

"Why are you even here?"

"You have asked me this how many times now?"

"I keep asking you this because you never answer me."

I sigh, gripping the steering wheel even tighter.

Why should I be afraid to admit this?

"Because I care, alright?" I say quietly.

"What?"

"I do. I don't know why, but I do."

"And you're not just saying this to make me feel any better?"

"No! I genuinely do care about you."

I see him smile out of the corner of my eye.

"Well thank you."

I smile back. "Anytime."

Once again, the car goes silent. Only this time, it's not an awkward silence. It's comfortable. I pull off of the interstate and into a gas station, quickly getting out and putting the pump in before sitting back in the car.

"Hey Liv?"

"Yea?"

"I'm sorry I've been such an ass."

"You don't have to apologize."

"But I do. I can't take out what happened in my past on you."

"Your past? What are you talking about?"

"I had this girlfriend-"

"Okay, first of all, I am not a girlfriend that betrayed your trust."

"I know that now."

"What do you mean now?"

"Because of that, I was rude to you when I shouldn't have been."

"Wait, so you actually had a girlfriend that betrayed your trust?"
