What happens with Ge? Gone?
After that morning, everything went back to what it used to be. No more bubbly Sarah. Hindi na rin kami nakakapag-usap o nakakapagbiruan katulad ng dati. Makipagbiruan man ako, wala namang respond. Para kang nakipagbiruan sa manika. Mag-usap man kami, puro importanteng bagay lang tulad ng:
'Gerald, yung yaya dadating ngayon.'
'Sarah, I need the Wednesday off. I posted it already.'
'Gerald, may pupuntahan akong client on Saturday, I posted it sa ref.'
'Gerald, sweldo ni yaya bukas. Drop mo na lang yung share mo sa jar.'
Para lang kaming maghousemates.
Eh bakit housemates naman talaga kayo Gerald dba?
The routine goes on for weeks. I go with the flow. Whenever I have my day off according to the 'schedule', kahit merong labas ang team, I chose to stay at my place. At least I can spend time with myself, mag-isip ng mga bagay bagay then go home in the morning.
Sarah on the other hand is different, she stays at the house and bakes. I think it makes her calm. I can see when she's baking, she seems at her happy place.
Dumadalaw din yung agency once in a while to observe Cobbe's condition with us. She thinks were on the right path on taking care of Cobbe. Kahit kasi may yaya si Cobbe, hands on si Sarah sa alaga. Since she has her own business, pag kaya ng oras nya, nauwi talaga sya to take care of him. Nag-eeffort naman ako kay Cobbe, minsan sinasama ko sila ni yaya sa game ko para din makilala yung mga ninong nya. The agency said we'll have the custody before we know it.
I am on my way home from a basketball game when my phone rings.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
Sarah Calling..
'Yes Sarah?' Naexcite ako bigla.
'Hello Gerald? Nasa bahay ka na ba?' I can hear Cobbe is crying on the background.
'Malapit na. Why?'
'Can you pick us up? Nasa shop pa kasi ako. Si yaya nagkaron ng emergency sa bahay nila eh. Kaya nasakin si Cobbe. Eh wala akong dalang kotse.'
'O sige, I'll be there in 10 minutes.'
'Thank you.' Wow. Its been a long time.
As I reached her shop, napansin ko na wala ng tao. Sya na lang ang mag-isa, what took her so long? Bat nasa shop pa sya ng gantong oras? It's almost 10.
Her shop is small but nice. Homey ang ambience. As soon as I entered the door, I heard Cobbe's cry. I searched for them in the kitchen and saw them. Cobbe is crying non stop and Sarah on her pastry chef uniform. 'What happen?' I asked her while stepping closer to them.
'Hindi ko din alam. Kanina pa sya iyak ng iyak. Hindi ko mapatahan.' I saw the frustration on her face.
'Let me take him. Mag-ayos ka na. Lets go home. Gabi na nagtatrabaho ka pa.' I took Cobbe without removing my eyes on her.
'I dont really sure what's with the tone, pero mag-aayos na ko.' She then turned her back, 'You can stay at the couch sa labas. Magbibihis lang ako.' Napansin nyang tumahan si Cobbe nung kinuha ko. 'Nako yung tito nya palang babaero ang hinahanap.'
'Babaero ka dyan. Hindi na ko babaero noh.'
'Hindi NA? Talaga lang ah.' And she's out of the room.
'Hindi na ko babaero baby noh. Nakita ko na si right girl eh. Diba? Appear tayo dyan.' I heard him giggling and respond to my high five.
We were waiting for Sarah to come out and I just noticed some pictures na ginawang design in the corner of the shop. They were pictures of Kath and Sarah. Kath, Fred and Cobbe. Kath and Fred. And I stopped at a certain picture which I recognized, picture of Sarah, Cobbe and me during Cobbe's first birthday party. Kinuha ko para mas makita ko ng maigi. I heard Cobbe laughed.
'Ang ganda noh, baby?' And acted like showing Cobbe the picture.
'Mamamama.. Papapapapa..'
'Ano? Ano ulit yun Cobbe?' I returned the picture and shake his belly, 'Ano sabi mo baby?'
'Mama.. Papapapa..' Nakakapagsalita na sya!
Ang galing!
'Okay na. Lets go?' She then looked at me with a big grin on my face. 'Anong nangyari sayo?'
'Mamamamama..' I point at Cobbe with a huge smile in my face.
'Nakakapagsalita na sya?' She almost run towards us. She quickly touched Cobbe's hand. 'Isa pa nga?'
'Papapapa.. Mama.'
'Ang galing!' Sarah then clapped her hands. 'Ang galing ni baby! But no baby, Tita.' Pointing at herself. 'Not mama. Tita.'
I can see what's she's trying to prove.
'Mama.'
I interrupted her before she could speak. 'Yaan mo na, baka yan palang ang kaya nyang sabihin.'
'Papapapa.' And the little man yawned.
'Halika na, inaantok na. Ako na.'
I gave Cobbe to her and Cobbe touched her face, 'Mama.' She then looked at me and smiled.
'Yes baby, Papa and Mama are here.'
I smiled.
