Chp.10 'One week later'

It had been almost a week, It was Friday morning, and I got out of bed luxuriously at eight to see Cas scribbling away on his desk again. "D'you ever sleep?" I said with a yawn, stretching out like a cat.

Cas looked up, then checked his watch before ruffling his hair and slumping down on the table, "No.." he groaned.

I giggled at his reaction then went to take a shower, barely remembering to take in a robe for when I got out. The water was warm and relaxing, the shower was so expensively luxurious and comfortable that I didn't want to get out anytime this century, and when I finally pulled myself out the towels were so plush I had a hard time waking up without wanting to go right back to sleep there on the cushy floor mat. I grabbed my robe, then twisted my hair in a smaller towel before throwing the ones I used in the hamper with my dirty clothes.

I opened the bathroom door in a flurry of steam, seeing Cas still slumped on the desk, I walked over slowly to see if he was asleep. Just like before, he looked like an angel when he slept, making me giggle at the irony of the phrase before gently rousing him a little by rubbing his arm and trying to walk him over to his unused bed in his hazy state, hoping he could at least nap before school started at nine. I checked his watch, eight-twenty, darn.. I thought. I ran into the wardrobe and pulled out my hair dryer, I gave my hair a quick dry but nothing fancy before throwing on an old t-shirt with a native american thunderbird print on it and a pair of tattered jean shorts. Looking at my pitiful collection of shoes, I grabbed an old pair of black sneakers and put them on over some thick white socks. I gave myself the once over in the mirror, then I remembered the complete non-existance of clocks at this school, and I took out a wide black leather watch that I got on my fourteenth birthday, checking the time I saw that we had about thirteen minutes before class, I hurridly put on some cover-up to hide any blemishes I had, and then got out some light pink lip gloss that smelt of cherries. Running outside I saw Cas had turned on his back, feeling playful, I ran up and jumped on him to wake him up. He was so surprised, he flung both of us off the bed and on to the floor, I credited myself for this momentus achievement before rubbing my head and noticing he was now on top of me looking completely shocked. "Whoa!" he shouted as we fell, "What's going on!?" he said while rubbing his head.

"We.." I said breathlessly, "have about thirteen minutes before class"

"What?" he shouted, jumping up and running into the closet to change.

I got up swaying a little, It seemed I was hitting my head way too often. I picked up my messenger bag, and the weird books the Dean sent me last night. I gave the books a look through, battle techniques, flight patterns, the skies, a manual, healer's magic.. the titles went on and on. I'm sure if I hadn't seen Castiel's wings for myself, I wouldn't believe a thing in these books on Angels, much less that I was one.

The week had gone by pretty smoothly, and this was the last day before my first school weekend. Ecanus said that we get permission to go into town on the weekends, and I was looking forward all the stores I heard the guys talking about. Castiel had muttered about a small bookstore that also sold writing supplies, Ecanus was all gun-ho about the candy store, which actually didn't surprise me since he always looked so hyper. Hayyel was excited about some new supplies for his work with the animals, which made it so I couldn't help but think how completely sweet his care for the animals was. He'd even taken in an injured squirrel this week, which I'd thought was odd until Ecanus said he even took deer under his wing from time to time, even though the bigger animals had to be kept in a stable instead of his room. Zagzagel was of course interested in the library, he assured me he'd already read all the books there, and what he wanted was the new books he'd ordered last month. I rolled my eyes at him. Ofcourse Ezekiel was always being the jerk, he'd butt in every now and then to taunt me, or poke me with one of his knives. He had a new one everyday, and whenever he could he'd poke me with them or pretend to kill me, then he'd laugh while I scowled after him, just because I hadn't learnt his level of combat yet. The teachers all said I was a fast leaner, but he was regrettably still the best.

The boys each did something to help me while I caught up what they had learned last term. Hayyel was all about wildlife and healing magic, Castiel taught me writing, art and how to control my magic, Ecanus was all about combat while Z helped me with math and potions. Flight-class was by far my favourite though, and I was gladly becoming the best at it, which pissed Ezekiel off because he used the best.

I remember when I first teased out my wings (I was told that I had unconsciously been keeping them retracted) I had been so mesmerized by their intricate simplicity. Then as the week went on I found out that angels practically never retracted them, except for sleep or being indoors. So I had plenty of time to admire them in the mirror, on the surface of the lake and in the reflections in the windows. I had drawn everyone's wings by Wednesday for art; Z had Black wings with white trims, Castiel's were pure white, I didn't draw Ezekiel's but they were pure black, Ecanus and Hayyel both had brown wings with white trims or flecks, though Hayyel's were a darker brown. My wings were white with black flecks, though I found one amazingly scarlet feather on my right wing. Cas told me something poetic about the red representing my past. All in all, I was pretty proud that I was the best flyer of the Angel dorm with a unique red feather which set me apart from the other's.

The angels had their own section of the forest property with a ravine cliff, so I never saw the shifters and wizard's section, nor the demons that had their own part of the forest too that was dark and covered in pine trees. But when I went up high enough, I could see their fields and practicing stages, they also had some sport fields which I could tell Ecanus really wanted to storm. For us, flight classes were directed by an animated eagle over by the cliffs along with combat class on the rocky flat just before the cliff, where a weapons store was built into the stone. Potions and Math classes were one class supervised by an animated vole, who loved jewels and gold, which is what he usually obsessed about while Z taught me about other potions he learned about in books. Suprisingly, I noticed the vole didn't notice at all. Writing and art classes were the most fun, since only Cas and Z really knew what they were doing, while Ecanus struggled along with Hayyel, and Ezekiel ditched class making it just that much better. I sat next to Cas and he helped me the entire class whenever I struggled like Ecanus and Hayyel, so i could avoid the scolding of the animated owl and fox teachers. There was a magic class, taught by an animated cat, out in the forest, but it was only one class a week since we were expected to explore our own powers ourselves.

I was thrilled when I found out that Fridays were half days, so I made Ecanus promise to take me to see the wizards and shifters in action, since they didn't get the half day like us. We only had Flying and Combat classes today, so while I was packing my bag, I stopped and considered just leaving it and the books here. After all, Combat and Flying classes were learned more in your gut than in your head.
