Jealousy

Draco Malfoy was jealous of the Weasleys as a child because they all had each other; he had no siblings as his parents had had difficult conceiving. When he grew up he found out that he too had this difficulty. When Astoria finally became pregnant he was overjoyed as he thought that day would never come.

Draco treated his son better than his father had ever treated him and this rubbed off on his son. When Draco saw the Potters and Weasleys on platform 9 ¾ that day he looked longingly at their large families. Instead of allowing Scorpius to act as awfully as he had he told his son how important it was that he tried to make friends with them, because they were the nicest people he knew.
