Lost Faith
I’ve been told that you are here and now
The Bible is proof of your existence
What good is a tattered book
For when you are needed the most
Our calls are never answered.
I've watched those I loved and care for
Those that have faith within your word
Relentlessly sing your almighty praises
As their bodies become contorted, ripped and torn to pieces
Riddled in continuous pain.
They continue to follow you so blindly
With pathetic smiles on their faces
Saying, “It’s all in God’s hands now.”
Gracefully dying
Silently suffering their fate.
I’ve been instructed to just believe
Have faith in those things unseen
Get down on bended knee
And plead my case to God.
That has left me only doubting
For you never make your presence known
Refuse to show you face
To those who follow you so blindly
Having placed you on the highest thrown.
Religion has become a dirty word
For I have seen what blind faith has done
How hiding behind an ancient book
Is how our society has been run.
True I once was your follower
Living in ignorant bliss
But you died in my heart that day
As my faith in you was stripped.
If you were truly there
The loving, caring God everyone claims you are
Children shouldn’t be living in poverty and despair
The sick would not be in misery and pain
And I would not be watching those
That claim to love you the most
Die, suffering right before my eyes
Telling me they'll see me on the other side
As the give up the fight and die.
