Fourteen: That Would Be Enough

Eliza

Angelica struts in front of me as we walk to school.

"Angelica?"

She smiles down at me.

Her height is dramatically different than mine.

"Hm?"

I fidget a bit, almost walking directly into a tree.

"Do you remember Alexander from the party?"

She nods.

"D-Do you think he l-likes me?"

I stutter, playing with the hem of my skirt.

"Sure he does!"

Peggy pipes up from behind me.

We all three jump at the sound of trash cans being knocked over.

Angelica folds her arms across her chest.

"Why don't you go ask him?"

She nods to the group of boys shouting and knocking things over.

Alexander is in the middle of them, smiling at a curly-haired boy who I recognize from my science class.

"B-But..."

Angelica shushed me.

"Eliza dear, everything you want in life you have to work for..."

I pout. 

"Angelicaaaaaaaa...."

I whine.

"Elizaaaaaaaaa...."

She mocks me.

"And Peggy!"

Peggy chirps, standing on her tippy toes.

I roll my eyes, smirking.

"Go on now...Shoo! Shoo!"

Angelica says pushing me in front of her.

I've never been in the front before.

I walk softly over to where the boys starting sitting after knocking everything over.

Alexander sat cris cross applesauce on the grass while the other boys sat around him.

I carefully stood in front of him.

"E-Excuse me?"

He automatically stood up, taking my hand and kissing it.

A bit old fashioned, but I still blushed deeply.

He started to blush to before I started to talk.

"I-I'm Eliza...we met at the p-party?"

I stutter.

Alexander looks behind him at the other boys.

"Y-Yeah. I'm Alexander...p-please to meet you...again."

He said, giggling a bit.

I smiled.

"Um...want to sit with me and my friends at lunch?"

I asked, surprising myself at my lack of stuttering.

His eyes grew wide.

"Really?! I mean uh...y-yeah sure..."

He blushed again.

I smiled wider.

"Well alright. See you later, Alexander!"

I said, bouncing away on my toes.

Angelica and Peggy waited for me just inside the school.

I squealed and ran to them.

"I did it Angelica and I only stuttered a bit!"

She smiled so wide.

"I'm so proud of you, Liza! So what level did you get to?"

I cocked my head.

She sighed.

"You know? Like did you get his number or...."

I slapped myself in the face.

"Oh! I forgot!"

She groaned.

"Did you at least ask him to lunch?!"

She cried, startling a few freshmen.

My eyes lit up.

"Yes! Yes I did!"

She smiled, bouncing on her toes.

"You did it!"

She hugged me, Peggy joining in soon.

"I bet he loves you, sis."

I sigh deeply.

"That would be enough..."
