Chapter 26:

"That bastard did what!" Adrianna shrieked over the phone. I winced from her outburst. I loved Adrianna to death, but I knew one day she would cause my hearing to deteriorate.

"Adri please" I muttered into the phone as I pushed my hair back away from my face.

I was just about to fall asleep when my phone had gone off. The blaring annoyance of Adrianna's personally chosen ring tone made me cringe because I knew I was in trouble. I hadn't spoken to Adrianna in over a week, she was gonna chew me to pieces. I'm sure she had heard I wasn't with  Donavan anymore and it was going to make the whole situation worse. She would be pissed I hadn't kept her in the loop.

"Hold your tongue vacca, you owe me" (cow) she hissed playfully down the phone making me smile.

She was mad at me, I knew that and she had every right to be, but she always spoke jokingly towards me which meant she wasn't really that mad, more annoyed than anything. Of course, once we got onto the topic of Donavan and I that would all change.

I hadn't told her about what had happened with Donavan. I hadn't had time to call her to today or after Donavan left the first time. My life had gotten so hectic in the last few days that I hadn't even had time to call my mother. I was a horrible best friend and daughter.

"Anyway, I spoke to Donavan yesterday" she said casually.

My body froze, locking in place, as I went to sit up. I was in deep shit, Donavan had spoken to Adrianna before I had gotten the chance to. And what made it worse was that she had spoken about talking to him so casually, usually, that meant she was pissed off. The kind of pissed off where she was containing her anger until it exploded and that was what scared me the most.

"You did?" my voice broke as I asked.

"Yeah, he seemed really down, but wouldn't tell me what was wrong" she voiced, he tone was worried and unsure making me sigh with relief, but not completely.

Donavan may not have told Adrianna what was going on, but that didn't me she was done with fishing for answers. She was going to start questioning me, I just knew it. And the whole situation was going to fall apart the second she found out Donavan and I were no longer seeing each other.

"Oh really?" I asked.

I didn't know why I was playing dumb. The word just slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them. I knew it was wrong to play the dumb card, it was a stupid angle, and I was being hypocritical because I hated when people acted dumb, but I had made my decision and I was going to have to go with it.

"Yea, sweetie do you have any idea why he might be upset?" she questioned, her tone was stern now and I knew I was in the shitter.

She knew I was playing dumb, I could tell just by the way she spoke and I knew she was now pissed.

Before I could even being to plea for forgiveness she was hollering through the phone.

"Dio dannazione Kira, perché non basta dirmi che due si fermarono a vederci! Donavan mi ha detto. Donavan! Non è il mio migliore amico!" (God dammit Kira, why didn't you just tell me you two stopped seeing each other! Donavan told me. Donavan! Not my best friend!)

"I know, I know and I'm so sorry. Things have just been hectic and I didn't know how to tell you-" I started to explain but she cut me off.

"I'm your best friend Kira! I realise things have been hectic. After what your brother did, you don't have to apologise for not telling me sooner, but I still wish you had told me instead of Donavan" she said her soft and sincere even though I knew she was still mad.
