Adopted by Anthony Ramos

Chapter one

Anthony's pov

I woke up this morning singing "No Air" to myself. As I got myself some cereal I had a feeling that this day would change my life forever. Once, I got my cereal, no milk, mind you, I sat down on my couch and just as I was about to turn on the tv I heard an eager knock on my door and with that I heard Pippa's voice screaming my name. Did I mention her apartment is right across from mine? It makes it easier for her to disturb my mornings. I still love her though.

"Anthony! Anthony! Anthony! Open up!!!!" She shouted
"I'm coming, I'm coming" I open the door
Before I knew what was happening Pippa jumped on me, pushing me back as. She was still clinging to me
"Jeez Pippa! Someone seems happy" I said getting her off me
"Judging from your morning voice, I'll guess that someone is me,"she said, "Anthony, guess what!!" She said jumping off me
"Did you win a 96,000 dollars?" I said referencing In the heights
"Ha ha no," she said " i decided to adopt a child! In honor of Eliza " she said standing at attention
"Cool, I guess that's better than 96,000," I said smiling
"Do you wanna come? I'm going to the Windham foundation today"
" yeah sure. Imma get ready" I said pointing to my bed head "I am not going out like this"
"Ok ok hurry up I'm staying here and watching bubble guppies"
As I opened my mouth I realized I couldn't judge her because I do the same thing, so I just walked away

**********************time lapse*************
"Ok I'm done" I said coming out in blue jeans, a my shot t-shirt with a black sweater.
" That was fast" she said Turning off the tv " oh and your girllffrienddd is coming"
" girlfriend? I don't have a-"
"Jasmine dummy, she has already adopted Jaden"
"What she's not my girlfriend " I blushed
"Just shut up and let's go get her " pippa said rolling her eyes.

We got to her apartment in less than a minute. Did I mention she lives one floor under than us.
Pippa rang the bell and almost immediately Jasmine opened the door with a sweet smile, her hair in a ponytail with shorts and a t-shirt.
"Hey jazzy!" Said Pippa
"Hi Pippa! Hi Anthony " she said in her beautiful voice
"Hi" I said, "is Jaden coming?" I asked
"No, he's working on his guitar,"
"Ok then. Is he awake?" I asked
"No, the guitar just plays by itself" she says sarcastically referring to the sounds from her apartment.
"Oh right" I said laughing
"Come on come on!! " Pippa said jumping up and down dragging us outside
"Anthonyyyyy" Pippa said once we got to the parking lot
"I'm driving, aren't I" I said groaning
"Awww he's so sweet, isn't he jasmine " said Pippa
"It's the only reason you're going Ant" jasmine said laughing
" gimme the keys" I groaned to Pippa
"I took your keys because you are not wasting my gas honey," pippa said
"I give up," I said getting in the car

*****************************time lapse********************
" oh my gosh!! I'm so excited!!!" Said Pippa basically jumping out of the car
Jasmine and I ran out of the car after her and by the time we got in the building, we had already lost Pippa.
"Ant, you wanna look around?" Said Jasmine
" yeah sure, but don't expect me to adopt" I said
" ok, ok, come on" she said holding my hand as we looked around

Antilia's POV
Today started like any other day at the orphanage. We woke up early and cleaned the building, we got ready, and ate. We didn't get much to eat because there were so many kids who were here. I gave my breakfast to Tobi, a 4 year old boy, because I knew he needed it more than me, and then sat in a corner of the room reading To Kill a Mockingbird for the 17th time. When you live in an orphanage, you don't get many new things, including books.

I am Antilia Rodriguez, most people call me ant. My mom was from Nigeria and my dad, from Puerto Rico. My mom died when I was born through childbirth, and my dad committed suicide when she died. I never knew my parents, I never saw them in real life, and I didn't have any picture. I have no idea what they looked like, or talked like, or acted like. But I'm glad I have food and clothing and shelter. Today, today was the day that would change my life.

After a while, Tobi came up to me with an adorable smile
"Hi Antilia" he said
"Hey Tobi, what's up?"
"You, I'm still shorter than you" he smiled "what are you reading?" He asks "is it the book about the birds?"
"Yeah" I laughed as he climbed up on my lap
"Can you read it to me? " He asks. Now most four year olds would fall asleep to Harper Lee, but Tobi was different, that's why I loved him so much. He was a brother to me, and I always wanted the best for him
"Ok" I say starting to read,
"I'm no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the jury system—that is no ideal to me, it is a living, working reality. Gentlemen, a court is no better than each man of you sitting before me on this jury. A court is only as sound as its jury, and a jury is only as sound as the men who make it up. I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family.
"In the name of God, do your duty." I was joined at the last part and once I looked up to see who it was-

Anthony's pov
"I'll be right back,ant, I'm going to the bathroom " said jasmine
We had been looking around for about 15 minutes. I went in another room and heard a girl reading to kill a mockingbird. My favorite part. The part where Atticus tries to convince the jury to do their job right. I looked around to see who was reading. And I saw a girl, about 13 years old, with a boy about 4 on her lap. I walked closer to her and continued to listening. She read so beautifully. As she read the last line of the paragraph I couldn't help but say I with her
"in the name of god, do your duty"
She looked up at me and I smiled at her as she gasped. I hope my hair is ok....
"You're Antony Wamos!!" Said the boy, I laughed at the way he pronounced my last name
"Yes, and what's your name" I asked him
"My name is Tobi Wodgers, and I want to be just like you!" I laughed because he couldn't pronounce his r's
"What's your name?" I said turning to the girl
"My name is Antilia Rodriguez, but most people call me-"
"Ant" I said with her
"Yeah, "she said " How did you know?" She said
"People call me ant too" I said smiling
"I know- I mean cool" she said
I talked with Antilia for about 30 minutes before I heard her gasp again and then I turned around to see the angel named Jasmine
"How long does it take you to use the restroom?!" I asked her
"Oh I've been done for a long time. Jaden called me because lost his guitar pick, so I went home to help him find it. I walked with Pippa for a few, then I stood here for like 5 minutes.
"Wow" I said "how long have we been here?"
"About 50 minutes , Ant, can I talk to you for a minute
"Who me?" Both me and Antilia said
"You're Ant too?" She asked, "that explains a lot. Anthony?"
"Yeah, sure" I said as we walked to another side of the room
"So? " she said
"So, what?"
"You seem to have found a new best friend" she said glancing at Antilia who is still reading with Tobi,"Are you gonna adopt her?"
"I don't know," I said "I want her to be happy, and I'm not sure I'll be able to make that to happen"
"Oh shut up, ant, of course you will make her happy, you just talked to her for over 30 minutes! You will be just like a big brother to her."
"ok" I said " I think I'm gonna adopt her" I smiled
"Two adoptions today!" Jasmine squealed "I'm so happy" she said
I walked over to Antilia
"Hi again " she said
"Hey, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure"
"Do you want to be adopted?"
"Duh. It's an orphanage, the whole point is to give kids a home"
"Ummm ok then. What if I adopted you? Would you be ok with that?"
"Ummm yes!! Wait, really?"
"Nooooo I just asked you that for fun" I said, "seriously!!"
" ok then !! I'd love it!!" She said hugging me
"I'll go do the adoption shit"
"Ok I'll go get my stuff!" she squealed, "come on Tobi!!"
