He almost cried when he saw her .
With her unruly , fiery red hair and wild brown eyes .
But he didn't let himself .
He had already done enough crying .
" Thorpe " . He wrapped his arms around her .
Thorpe . The name was new to him , but yet it was so familiar .
He held her tighter , and she laughed .
" I'm glad you're ok " . She whispered .
He didn't say anything , just closed his eyes and savored the moment .
He understood now , why she had closed her eyes when she had first taken a bite out of his strawberry that day in lunch , she was savoring the moment .
Someone knocked at the door .
He didn't let go of her .
A doctor entered , wasn't too young , wasn't too old . His hair was brown , with a few streaks of grey .
He was a hardworker , that's what Mackenzie's mother had come to a conclusion .
She smiled .
" Miss Gamewell , I can see he's awaken . May I have a word with you before I check him? "
Miss Gamewell nodded . Leaving the room .
Mackenzie and Thorpe slowly pulled away from each other .
She sat on the edge of his bed , the blankets white and blinding .
" I think , it's time , I tell you - - "
" I knew " . She interrupted , looking into his eyes .
Then she looked away . He cringed .
" I knew even before I met you " .
He stared at her , searching her face .
" You knew? " . His voice squeeked . " You knew , even before you'd met me? "
She hesitated . She nodded .
" Why then?" . He asked . " Why did you stick around? "
She looked at him with sad eyes . " Because ... No one seemed to know the real you and I wanted to find out myself, what the real you was like . "
