You're sick? Take some meds and shut up.

School has become so hard and competitive now that we must work ourselves to our breaking point in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, till death do us part. We are literally figuratively married to school, for God's sake.

I have a cold. My eyes are sore, my nose is running, my head hurts. Not a pretty picture. And yet? I have notes to take. Tests to study for. Projects to complete. Novels to read. I don't have time to be sick. I have too much going on!

My friend tells me "Aw are you going to miss school?"

Answer: "Hell. Fricking. No." I mean, I can't.

School has gotten so hard that we can't miss a single day without falling horribly horribly  behind. What the heck? I remember the good old days, when we would skip school whether we were sick or not. And yes, lots of people still do this. I am not one of them, and neither are most of my friends. If I'm not so sick I have to be hospitalized, forget it. And maybe even then. I'm going to school.

Sick?

Wear a baggy sweatshirt (no cares. They're damn comfortable), stuff your pockets with tissues, and hope for the best.

What kind of world is it where the work is so hard we feel like we can't miss school no matter what just because we fear we will fall behind?

Answer: a stupid one. Now I must go blow my nose and do some math. Woo woo factoring cubic equations! Party at my place!
