78. Duo-Rhyme — The End of Love

This life is but a fleeting spell
That ends upon the tolling knell
Of fading tremors in the air,
   Of life still gathering somewhere
Upon this fruitless world so bare
Of everything that once was fair,
   Of clinging hopes against despair,
Of every vow that we forswear
   Over our lovers everywhere,
Of love upon the wounds of care.
Such is the life we live so well
To make a heaven out of hell.
