77. Florette — Keep Out

Suspecting eyes look out and shun
These men, assuming what they've done,
And seek to build up arms 'gainst them
Upon the quick and thinking whim to shoot a gun.

It doesn't matter who they are,
Or what they do, their repertoire;
They are condemned upon the sight
Of something wrong, however slight: tread not too far.

Tread not upon this hallowed ground,
For if you're seen snooping around,
You'll face the wrath of certain death
Sooner than you can take a breath or make a sound.

This property extends beyond
The borderline of this small pond,
Encompassing this private house
Where not even a silent mouse have stepped and spawned.

This house holds secrets far to deep
For any mortal man to keep
Within the bounds of living walls;
So shall these brooding silent halls forever sleep.

Just as deep secrets were born here,
So shall these secrets disappear
Upon the passage to the grave
Of those within this modern cave you love to fear.

A/N: The Florette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more quatrains stanzas, in which like the outgrowing of a small flower, the forth line of each stanza is longer, and enwraps the previous lines. Also, line #4 requires an internal rhyme scheme that rhymes the eighth syllable with the end of line #3, and continues to add on four more syllables than the other lines so that the fourth line ends rhyming with lines #1 and #2.

Meter: Syllabic (8-8-8-12)
Rhyme:

Line 1: a
Line 2: a
Line 3: b
Line 4: b(8)a
