Chapter Seventeen

~Monica~

I squirmed uncomfortably in my chair. They had insisted I couldn't be in the room when they talked but after some convincing TJ got them to let me stay. I could tell he didn't want me to leave his side.

I tried to tune them out but it was difficult, they talked about the shooting, how they needed a new safer trap house, this one was getting to known and they were expecting some payback.

There were people that wanted most of them dead including TJ.

The last thing I wanted was for to give Monica reason to worry. Of course there was people who wanted us and me dead but then again they always did.

"You got to get back into the game." Monte said staring me right in my eyes. Before answering I looked back at Monica who gave me a small nod, almost to say 'do what you gotta do'.

"We need a leader TJ, you know that and none of us are cut out to do it" he said waiting on me to reply. "Alright" I finally said.

"Aye TJ!" I heard from the back of the room. "I got an idea!!" I could hear one of the youngins shout. I looked back waiting on him to say something foolish.

"Why don't ya girl help us out?" He said with a goofy smile switching back from eye contact with me then to her. I glared at him.

"Are you fucking stupid?!" I shouted. And with that, I didn't have to explain myself, that's all I had to say.

Monica had an odd expression on her face, one that I couldn't read.

I lost my breath for a moment when it was said, at first it seemed preposterous but the more I thought about it, the better of an idea it seemed. A female? Who would ever suspect a female?!

Just as I was caught in my thoughts TJ grabbed my arm and led me out. I was so in my thoughts I didn't notice anyone or anything until we reached the door and I caught the mystery guy's eyes again.

No matter how hard I tried I was unable to break eye contact with him until we were out the door.

What is different about him?
