14:40

When I woke up this morning, it didn't hit me that I wasn't going to see Rae today.
But now that I'm going home, it's becoming more apparent.
I texted in the group chat before the bell rang and asked if anyone wanted to hang out.
Everyone said yes, except for Jessa and McKenna because they're at work.
We agree on going to a shopping center and grabbing something to eat.

The bell rings and I stand up to leave.

"Harry," I hear Mrs. Bristow say.

I turn around and walk toward her, "yeah?"

"Can I talk to you for a brief moment?"

I shrug, "yeah, sure."

She smiles, "okay. So, on your paper, you explained a place in between. Where did that idea come from?"

Reality.

"I don't know, really."

Come up with something philosophical and deep.

"I mean, I guess when someone dies they're never really gone. There presence is still with you and roaming. Kind of like a guardian angel. They watch over you and make you feel like you're no longer alone, or that you never were alone to begin with."

Mrs. Bristow has a satisfied smile on her face. "That's beautiful. I love that."

I smile awkwardly.

"That's all I wanted to ask you about, I'll see you tomorrow."

We bid our goodbyes and I run to my locker then to my car.
I plug the AUX chord into my phone and hit shuffle.
I turn the volume up and follow the directions Ashlyn gave me.

It takes about twenty minutes to get to the shopping center.

Stella told me to meet everyone at a restaurant that only sells different kinds of noodles.

What restaurant only sells noodles?

Apparently this one.

I walk toward the line and see the girls.

Ashley says hi and the others turn around.

I greet all of them and when I look at Stella, her cheeks are a bright red.
I give her a confused look and everyone else laughs.

Okay . . .

"I'm just now realizing that I'm your only guy friend." I say after we order.

They all giggle.

"Maybe you should find us some guy friends then," Ashyln jokes.

"I've met some, but I don't think they're all that great."

"Yeah, the guys at our school suck." Ashlyn says.

"I've noticed."

Stella shoots me a horrified look, "what?"

I laugh, "I'm not gay."

"I am," Ashley comments.

The table roars with laughter.

"Oh my Gosh!" Stella catches her breath, her hand over her heart.

Everyone quiets down and the woman comes with our tray of food.

The bowls get passed to their owners and we begin eating.

"Are you serious?" I ask as I open my chopsticks.

I decided on Pad Thai because I've had it before and everything else seemed to exotic.

Ashley takes a bite of her mac and cheese, "yeah. I have a girlfriend."

"Really? Does she live around here?"

"She lives in England."

I nod and take a bite of my food.

And it's so good.
I'm no longer complaining about this place and it's lack of a menu.

Conversation dies down as we eat.

People around us carry on with their lives.
This being a small girl dropping her bowl of spaghetti on the tile, smashing the bowl.

Heads turn to the girl and her mother.
The little girl beings to cry and she apologizes over and over again.

Her mother reassures her that it's okay, but the girl isn't having it.

The girl stops crying for a moment as the people around her clean up the mess.
She covers her mouth with her fingers and tries to take some deep breaths.
Her big brown eyes look up at me and I give her a small smile.
She looks away quickly and I turn back to my food.
When I look back around, she's staring at me and I laugh a little.
Her cheeks turn a deep red and she smiles wide.

Her mother looks at me and gives me a thankful smile.
She grabs her daughter's hand and begins walking away.
The girl looks back at me and waves shyly.
I smile and wave back.
A huge smile breaks out over her face.

At least her tears are gone.
