Chapter Two
Two weeks earlier….
Knock, knock!
“Enter” replied Lord Stephen, Fifth Earl of Bath.
“Lady Remmington to see you Lord Stephen, shall I send her in?” asked Mr. Burke, Lord Stephen’s butler.
“Yes….please send her in Burke, I’ve been expecting her”.
“Clarissa……please come in. Burke, tea please. Thank you”.
“Hello Stephen, I picked up your invitations for you like you wanted. Did you want me to distribute them for you as well?”
“Clarissa, you know that you cannot. My parties are discretely held, you know what would happen to your reputation if you were delivering my invites”.
“Stephen, why can I not attend? I would be in costume, no one would know that it was me!”
“I forbid it Clarissa. You are a respectable widow, your brother would turn in his grave, god rest his soul, if he knew that I even told you about my parties. I’m sorry, I should have never have told you, but I needed your help.”
“Stephen, I may be a bit inexperienced when it comes to what goes on between a man and woman, but I’m not naïve. I just want to come and watch, be a spectator. “
