This world is already unfair,

The rich get richer,

The poor get poorer,

And no one seems to care.

And then if the price goes up,

You can see it on their faces,

That they have had enough.

As the customers' faces fall,

The shopkeeper hears a call,

Of all the luxuries and vacations----

That are dreams no more.

With every chink in the cash register

His heart begins to soar.

Sometimes its 50/50.

But more often than not,

The circumstances are shifty.

Then there are bad days,

When the price rises,

But there is a customer crisis.

Such goods are said to be elastic.

This situation is very realistic.

Then there are goods that are bought,

No matter the cost.

They are every shopkeeper's dream,

Because profits consume their every thought.

Such goods are said to be,

Inelastic.

And more often than not,

Their effects ,

On consumer health,

Are quite drastic.

Author's Note: I wrote this poem as a Economics class assignment. The challenge was to write a poem on the concept of 'Elasticity' using as many economics terms as possible. It was a fun activity, stretching my horizons.
