Chapter 27

Leodáin’s POV

Returning to Brotànïa the next day, you’d of thought that I must have been killed by the stunned expressions of the people of Court. I guess I don’t blame them; I’d disappeared for three days, without a trace of where I’d gone. But I had hardly any time for them; instead I sought out William. The High Counsellor was not hard to find, seeing as he was in the entrance hall as I arrived. I immediately tell him to request an audience with my mother; no matter what other matters she may need doing.

Minutes later, I am walked into the Throne room, my mother stationed on her throne with a billowing green gown.

“Leodáin, my son!” Her hand flutters to her chest as if to support her. “What – I – Do you even realize – where have you been?” she splutters, but I hold her off.

“It does not matter now, for what does if in the future,” I say boldly, looking around, thankful for the fact that half the court was present. “Brotànïa is not safe. We are being attacked from the North by creatures. Creatures of the Forbidden Forest, Mother.”

“What is the meaning of this?” a Court member yells.

“How is it you know of this?” my mother presses.

No need for me to hold it in at this point. “Mother, the Lady Daniella Charushëela is alive,” I say bluntly.

“Leo, not this again…”

“It is not a superstition. When you’d thought I’d been captured by creatures weeks before, I was actually looking for her in the Forbidden Forest. And I found her. And lets just say that she knows more about the Creatures of the Forbidden Forest than we do. Not to mention, who is to be attacking us. Not all the creatures are evil.”

“Lies!” another Court member yells.

“He’s been tainted by their kind!” comes the familiar voice of the Duke of Berylia.

Mother holds up her hand to silence them, before taking a long breath. “What is it you know, my son?” she asks finally.

With a sigh of relief, I tell them of Safira – I tell of how Safira is commanding the Otherworlders to invade and how she is the reason for all the attacks on our villages and the random disappearances. I explain of the good creatures of the Forbidden Forest – the Dwarves, Elves and Faeries. All through this, though, I am careful not to mention what Daniella is. I didn’t think they would believe me as it is.

“Majesty! He has been in amongst their kind for weeks! How are we to trust –” starts the Duke.

“Victor,” Mother interrupts, “if I wish for your contribution, I shall ask for it.” Then she turns away from his outraged expression to look at me. “Leodáin. If what you tell us is true –”

“It is true, Mother. But right now we have no time to discuss tactics much more than this. I require my men, only a small number to move quickly, to the North of Berylia, and to bring the villagers there back to safety.”

It took much convincing on my part, seeing as the majority were yelling at me, telling me I’m mad, that I’m leading them to an ambush, honestly, I don’t understand how many of them even became councilors. But after what feels like the most of the afternoon, we finally agree to my terms.
