Chapter Eleven:

I came upon the farm house, following Jace’s directions. I didn’t know Bradin lived on a farm. I thought he would live in the city like us, with a fancy house or something. I guess I do have a tendency to assume things about others. Maybe there is more to him than I think. I pulled into the driveway; oh I hope he’s not mad that I just showed up here without warning, but Jace was really concerned about him. Plus I kind of want to find out what’s been wrong with him all week too.

Getting out of the car I walked up the path to the front door, admiring how pretty the rose bushes were on the path. I knocked and waited, a few seconds later I heard footsteps running to the door and it swung open.

“Uh hi… Can I help you?” A girl who looked to be a little younger than me answered. She had Bradin’s same green eyes and dirty blonde hair so I assumed she was related to him.

“Hi, I’m Gabriella Smith. I was wondering if Bradin was in.”

She laughed and opened the door wider so I could walk past her, “I know who you are, and I’ve seen you hanging out with my brother at school. I’m Adalynn Fields, his younger sister. I’m a junior.”

“Well it’s nice to meet you Adalynn. I didn’t know Bray had any siblings…Shows how much I know about him, I feel horrible!” I sighed.

“Oh it’s alright, I don’t even know if some of my friends have siblings either, it’s not something you usually find out unless you ask or visit their home a lot. And I know you’ve never been over before, so you didn’t know. We have another brother, his name is Kendall, and he’s six.”

“Awe how sweet. I don’t have any siblings. I’m an only child which sometimes kind of sucks.”

By now we had made our way to the living room where Bradin’s mother was sitting, “Hey mom this is Gabriella from school, she’s here to see Bray.”

Bradin’s mother stood up and held her hand out to me, Adalynn definitely took after her in the looks department, she looked like a younger version of her mother, “It’s so nice to meet you Gabriella, I’ve heard a little about you from Bradin. You sound like a very nice girl.”

I smiled at her, “Thank you Mrs. Fields, Bradin is a nice guy too. Well sometimes. I’m actually here to talk to him though, about what’s wrong with him. I’m worried because he has been acting very strange all week and Jace is extremely worried also.”

Mrs. Fields gave a small laugh and exchanged a glance with Adalynn, “Please its Maddie, Mrs. Fields makes me sound so old. Yes, Bradin has been in quite a mood this week. But I’m sure it’s his place to tell you as to why if he wants to. He is upstairs in his room; Adalynn can show you the way. Also you are more than welcome to stay for dinner if you like; we would love to have you.”

She leaned in and gave me a hug and walked off into the kitchen. She seemed like a very nice person. Well now I think it’s time to talk to Bradin. “Lead the way Adalynn.”

Adalynn guided me to a set of stairs, “Go up the stairs and go down the hallway, his room is the second door on the left, there’s a graffiti sign with his name on it on the door, can’t miss it. I’m going to go help my mom start dinner.” She smiled as she turned and left me alone by the stairs.

I jogged up the stairs and went and stood in front of the door with his name on it. I raised my fist about to knock when I suddenly stopped and felt extremely nervous. What if he yells at me for being here? What if he just slams the door in my face? What if he’s sleeping, I don’t want to wake him!

Oh quit bickering with yourself, Gabriella and just knock already. I knocked softly and waited.

The door flew open, “What now Addie?” He looked down and his eyes widen, “Oh sorry, you’re not Addie.” He sighed and walked back into his room gesturing for me to come in. “Close the door please, it’s hot in this house and I’m trying to cool my room down with the fan.”
