Chapter 1- Wooden Box

The leaves crunch under our feet as we run through the forest, keeping a good pace.

"Do you think we will find it?" Lucy whispers in my ear.

"I don't know." I reply honestly.

Everyone in our town thinks the necklace doesn't exist. They don't believe in Vampyres, either. It's all a stupid myth to them.

But not to us.

We believe. That's why we are searching for Niko's prized

possession.

My best friends Lucy and Eleanor, My boyfriend Alex and I.

"I hope so." Lucy whispers back. "I wanna meet the Vampyre King!"

I chuckle softly.

"What? He might be hot.."

"Eww!! He's old!" I exclaim, grossed out.

We laugh and continue on through the woods.

"Almost there!" I call out.

We stumble through a clearing where we believe the necklace was hidden.

Something in my mind tells me it's here.

I go over to a tree on the left near the back of the clearing.

Lucy comes to stand beside me.

Without warning, she shoves her fist into the ground creating a large hole.

I give her a strange look but all she says is, "Dig here."

Lucy and I start to dig into the ground.

"What are you doing?" Alex asks me.

"Digging. We think it's here."

He reaches down to help us and Eleanor comes over and starts tearing at the ground.

After a while, we find a small wooden box.

Lucy excitedly rips it out of the ground but her smile quickly fades.

"What is it?" I ask.

"Lock."

"Let's open it later. Right now, we have to get out of here. Bury that hole back up." Alex says in a authoritative voice.

I giggle at his tone.

He looks up and smiles at me, stepping closer.

I pull him into a hug and kiss his cheek.

His smile widens as he takes my face in his hands and kisses me.

"Done." Eleanor jumps up, snapping us out of our moment.

Lucy stands behind her and hands me the box.

"Put this in your pocket, yours are bigger than mine." She says.

I nod an shove it into the deep pockets of my coat. It isn't noticeable, thank goodness.

We stand there for a few minutes, wondering about our discovery.

What's in the box?

"We should go." Alex says.

We turn to leave when we hear a unfamiliar male voice behind us.

"No, you won't."
