I drove the car down to the beach front, deciding it was best since Emily needs to change into a swim costume. The thought of getting one for my self didn't even cross my mind, but I don't expect to be going into the ocean, so it doesn't seem too necessary. I never liked going in the ocean, I preferred to dig a hole in the beach and try to bury myself so I could stay there forever. I don't like being in the ocean. It seems pointless to get wet if you aren't getting washed.

As soon as we reached the beach, Emily jumped out of the car, eager to get there. I opened the passenger car door and the back car door for her to stand in between and change. I stand at the front of her, blocking her in case someone was peering at us from the bushes we are parked by. Very unlikely, but I wasn't taking the risk. It's had enough that people are on the beach and she's wearing a bikini, I don't want people to see her in one but I want to see her in one and I know it makes her happy being here. Seeing her with a smile on her face, wearing a bikini and only paying attention to me is worth anyone to stares. I think.

"Done." Emily speaks from behind me and I then around to face her. She wears a pink bikini that ties either side of her hips. The top half has one string wrapping around her neck rather than her shoulders.

"Come on then." I hold out a hand for her to grab and she does after closing both doors. My thumb holds down onto the car key button and locks it.

The sun glares down on us, making our skin wet with sweat. Our hands are clammy within each other -mine more than hers- but I don't mind and she doesn't seem to either. In fact, she seems happy to be holding my hand. Emily sways her arm back and forth lightly, pulling mine with her.

"Are you hungry? We can get food before we head onto the beach if you'd like." Emily asks me which makes me smile.

"Sure, let's do it. There sound good?" I point over to the coastal diner near us.

Her small head nods in agreement and I change our direction, walking towards the food place.

"Anything in particular you want to eat?"

"I think they only do seafood." She giggles.

"Not true, I can smell fries from here." I argue with a smile.

"Well what're you getting then?"

"Fries."

Emily laughs at my answer. "Over seafood?"

"Never been a fan." I crunch my nose in disapproval.

We both walk hand in hand into the diner and take a seat. Almost instantly, a waitress greets us.

"Hi! How are you doing today!" She smiles and tucks her shoulder length platinum blonde hair behind her ear. The colour looks terrible on her, making her skin appear green rather than pale. I have to force myself not to visibly react to it.

"Good thanks." Emily bobs her head.

"Are you ready to order?"

"Yeah, we will have one portion of fries." I say.

"Okay and what else?" She jots down the order onto her clipboard as I speak.

"The prawn and mussel salad, please." Emily answers to waitress.

"Okay. And to drink?"

"I'm fine with my smoothie." Emily quietly tells me. She still has half a smoothie left but I drank mine whilst she was changing into a swim suit.

"One coke. That's all."

The waitress walks away from our table and I notice Emily smiling as she takes in the interior design of the diner. There are light planks of wood on the floor, ceiling and walls and the counter is covered in it too. The tables are circular and a light blue and the seats are white.

"What do you want to do after the beach?" I question her which makes her head turn in my direction. Her smiles fades for a split second as she takes in my question, but returns as she gathers her answer.

"There's a bookshop by an ice cream shop just a little past the surf shop." She bites her plump lip. "We drove past it."

"So you want to go to the book store?" I raise an eyebrow at her, not surprised at all with her answer.

"Yeah, if that's ok."

"Of course it is. I think we should buy some new clothes too."

"Clothes? Why?" Her brow furrows.

"Well, we need some." I watch as her lips roll over her straw and she takes a sip of the drink she holds.

"We do? How much money do you have?"

"Enough for now."

....

The waitress returns with our order twenty minutes later. It gave me and Emily time to talk about the type of book she wants to read next. She said she wants to read romance instead of her usual horror. It's almost impossible to not stare at her body the whole time. She sits in a bikini in a diner whilst everyone else is fully clothed. It's hot.

The fries are salty, too salty if we weren't at the beach but since we are I make an exception.

"How is your salad?"

"Salty." She laughs.

We aren't used to eating sea side food, I guess. But why is it all salty? It's not as if my fries and her lettuce came from the ocean.

"Yeah, so are my fries." I roll my eyes and smile.

"Besides that it's nice."

"Have you always liked sea food?" I slip a fry into my mouth as I wait for a reply.

"Yeah, I had a personal trainer when I first started ballet and she had me on a pescatarian diet which meant I had to eat a lot of fish to make up for the loss of protein." She explains to me slowly. "Since then I've just kept eating it, as well as other meats."

I just nod in reply and go back to eating my fries until she speaks up again.

"Your tattoos are fading." She points out.

"They are?" I frown since I had no idea. I thought they were meant to last years not weeks.

"Yeah, they're still there though."

"So is your hair dye. Almost a complete blonde again." I wink at her.

"Yeah I know. I miss my blonde hair. I wish I never had to dye it. I made a pact to myself that I would always have virgin hair."

"Well you're not a virgin so why does your hair have to be?"

"Because Luca!" She says as though it's an answer.

Emily and I finish our lunch within twenty minutes. Well to be honest, I finish mine in five, she was the other fifteen. Now, we are strolling along on the sand, inching towards the ocean.

"Are you coming in with me?" Emily asks. There is now no one on the beach that is within our eye sight since the air has become much cooler in the last half hour. There was at least thirty people on the beach when we entered the diner but now, there is no one.

"No, I don't swim." Quickly, I reply to her, shutting down any idea she may have of me joining her in the water.

"You don't have to swim. Float." She shrugs at me.

"No I don't go in the ocean."

"Why? Are you scared?" Emily raises an eyebrow.

"Scared? No." A chuckle rises from my throat. "I just don't like it."

"If you come in the water with me I'll take this off." She pulls on the material covering her chest and tilts her body to walk backwards directly in front of me.
