After the comet and Zuko's coronation the fire lord requested a conference to discuss the treaty of nations and here is the end result.
Article 1: The fire nation colonies will become the united republic of nations led by avatar aang. The empire will also help improve the technological capabilities of the new nation and the world.
article 2: The southern water tribe is granted semi autonomy form the north as recognized by the avatar and the empire.
Article 3: The empire is allowed to keep all its southern territory. Along with 3 major trade routes The port of maolong, Zon-Lao, Xaulon.

There will be a sequel coming out in the near future but not for a while. But it will follow the legend of korra.
