Sydneys POV

I froze, my heart pounding against my chest.

I clenched my phone, I shut my eyes and sucked my teeth.

"I asked a fucking question?" his voice went higher.

I finished at how he had shouted.

Despite my shaking, I quickly tapped through my phone.

I heard his footsteps, and just by his footsteps, I could sense his anger.

He grabbed my arm and turned me around to face him.

I put the hand with my phone behind my back.

"I'm asking you a question!" he roared.

I freaking pray he answered!

Antonio's eyes bore into mine, and the intensity of his gaze made it clear that he was not going to buy any of my flimsy excuses.

"I-I was just looking for... for some documents," I stammered, trying to maintain a composed facade.

Antonio gripped tighter on my arm tighter, I winced his expression a mix of suspicion and displeasure. 

"Why didn't you ask me or my father if you needed any documents? Why were you sneaking around here?" he demanded, his tone filled with anger.

"Actually in fact, why would you need files from this house?"

I forced myself to meet his gaze, attempting to exude a sense of innocence and vulnerability.

"Unless... you're doing this purposefully," he asked coldly.

"I... I didn't want to bother you both. You've been so busy with the wedding preparations, and I didn't want to add to your stress," I replied, hoping my words sounded convincing enough.

He scrutinized me for a moment, seemingly contemplating my explanation.

His eyes flickered to the blueprint that I had hastily set back on the table, and a flash of suspicion crossed his features.
