Tooru winces as another stab of pain rushes through his knee but he doesn't want to tell anyone about it because the coach will make him quit the team. He needs volleyball, It's his coping mechanism and his distraction. Tooru feels like he's mostly moved on and is just stuck in the usual self-loathing that comes before tournaments. It's been a month? 2? 3? Since his rejection.

Although Tooru has only now figured out what Hajime meant when he said the cryptic sentence:

"You know, there's someone right next to you that probably loves you more than you liked me. You've just been too dense to notice it. Get your head out your ass Shiitykawa before they give up on you."

Followed by a smack to the back of Tooru's head.

He doesn't even remember what he was doing or why Hajime thought to say that but his brain finally caught up with it, or so he hopes. But now he has more emotions to sort through so he needs volleyball. Tooru sighs, running a hand through his hair as he instructs warm-ups for his team. Is Iwa-chan talking about Hikaru-kun? He's not really that close to anyone else so it must be.

Tooru turns to start the next exercise and another twinge of pain jolts through his knee. But if Hikaru likes him like Hajime thinks, why haven't they told him? Why would they keep it a secret and suffer when Tooru talked about Hajime all the time? No, it can't be Hikaru. But... what if...?

He debates with himself the whole practice and suddenly they're cleaning up. Tooru stretches his arms and picks up a stray ball. He likes Hikaru, sure... but does he like-like them? Could he like them in that way or are they just a friend? Would that make him no longer gay or...?

Maybe he likes Hikaru a little. But Tooru's focus has always been on Hajime so why? How does one go about actually moving on from a crush so the next person doesn't become a rebound? Tooru shakes his head and grabs his bag, deciding not to stay late again because he must be really tired if he's even entertaining the possibility of his other best friend liking him. Because people only like his fake happiness- he's sure if the fangirls saw his struggles or personal issues, they wouldn't like him anymore.

Tooru's childhood best friend barely tolerates him some days now and it's probably because Hajime has been putting up with Tooru for so long. What if Hikaru is the same?
