21: Heartbroken

"Ryder?" I called unsurely. How were my two mates-Ryder and Alec- in the same place? What was Ryder doing here in the first place?
How did Ryder know where I worked? Did he do a background check on me or did he just happen to come by accident?" Ryder turned away from Alec and did a once over on me.

"What are you doing?" I walked further to the table and noticed we were the only ones in the Cafe. Even Chloe was nowhere to be found.
"I-um-I wanted to say hi." Ryder scratched the back of his neck and I knew immediately that he was lying. Let's see how long he can keep up with his lie.
"How did you know where I worked?" I arched an eyebrow. He looked like a deer caught in headlights. He tried to mask it but I saw right through him.

"I asked Chloe." I sighed and shit him another question. He accepted defeat and said,
"I have been tailing you. I put a bug in your phone so I could hear your conversations. I also had someone follow you around. That is how I knew that you were supposed to be meeting with Alec."
The first reaction was shock. I was beyond stupefied. He actually did that? Here I thought the worst thing he could do was to do a background check on me but he had the cheek to actually put a bug on me and even have someone follow me around. Kylie squirmed in my head.

The reaction that followed was hurt. I felt hurt that he didn't trust us-Kylie and I. Kylie whimpered at the fact that our own mate treats us how they would treat a rogue. But then I realized. We were rogues. While it may be true that Italy is populated with both humans and werewolves, to the werewolves we were still rogues.

My wolf bent her head in shame. I tried to soothe her.
"It's not your fault."
" Yes it is. I knew I shouldn't have been gone for so long. I just-I needed time to heal. I've been nothing but a burden to you Alexa. You are better off without me."
Anger surged through me at the fact that Ryder had caused Kylie-who normally has a high self esteem and self confidence-to feel so low and hurt.
"Don't talk like that. I'm nothing without you, Kylie. I love you and I wouldn't trade you for anybody else."
" I love you too, Alexandra."

"Alexa?" Alec's voice brought me back.
"You are so fucking deceitful." I said to Ryder out loud. Alec came by my side to calm me down but I shook him off. I caught Ryder's eyes harden at Alec's actions.
"You told me you loved me. You said you trusted me. You Fucking told me you trusted me. Even though I was nothing more than a rogue to you."

"Alexa, that was never-" I cut him off shaking with anger and betrayal.
"You made me feel so safe. So loved but I was nothing but a leech to you. Fuck you. The only ones who ever cared were Ashton and Alec and I can't even get to be with them.
"You didn't break me, Ryder. You broke my wolf and that is a sin against me tht I can never forgive. If I lose her, Ryder Smith, you lose me." I walked to the door with tears streaming down my face. At the last minute, just before I stepped out, I turned back to face Ryder and said the words that marked the end of our relationship,
"Not that you haven't already." After that, I left with Alec calling after me. I ran through the streets not caring about the people I bumped into or the cold wind hitting my face.

I ran until I couldn't anymore and stopped at an abandoned park. I sat on a bench and let the tears flow.
I felt someone cuddle ma and wipe my tears. I opened my eyes, half expecting it to be Ryder but I saw Alec instead. He would never come. He is too prideful as an Alpha to do something like this.

I let myself be comforted in Alec's embrace. A hug is something I haven't had in a long time.

When we pulled apart, I realized how close we were. His nose was so close to mine they were almost touching. I didn't want to make it awkward so I leaned backwards.

"Thank you." I muttered. He smiled at me.
" I'm just doing my job." I looked up at him. His job as a mate?
"What job?" I asked.
"As a friend." I smiled too despite myself. It seemed he was ready to ignore the mate bond for now. That's fine by me. We could surely be friends. But first.... I frowned at him.
"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly.
"We can only be friends on one condition." His expression fell.
"Tell me your middle name." I stated. A grin crept on to my face and he realised he fell right into my trap. He looked conflicted and made my promise not to laugh. I promised him.

"It's Louis." That's actually a pretty name.
"That's so cute." I gushed. He laughed and I laughed too.
My worries ran out the window and I realised that a blissful friendship has begun.

Another update. I tried my best. I bet you guys weren't expecting what happened were you? I know I hinted that Ryder was the one for her but I never actually said it. I bet you guys want to know what Ryder was thinking so I will most probably write a bonus chapter. But Not now. At the end of the story. Exams are beginning next week so I will write a lot this week because of next week. Don't worry. Exams only last for a week.
