Prologue:

Jason is my grandson. He was only five years old, when I first told him the stories about the dragon riders.

The night when I told him the story about the dragon riders and the great fight against the evil Dark dragon was a chilly and windy night. The weather was strange for this time of the year. We were in the middle of January and the weatherman said it was going to be a sunny and dry month, but looking out the window said the opposite.

The were dark gray stormy clouds outside and thunders and lightnings flashing and thundering. The wind become a little more wildly and you could heard the trees crashing against each other. It was like if a hurricane was staring. But I knew it was only a little thunder storm, because there hasn't been hurricanes in Sunny hill town, a little town outside of Houston, in a long time.

I was babysitting my grandson during the weekend with my wife Sarah, because his parents were out of town for a business trip. They are always working, but they always managed to take good care of Jason, specially his mom Emily.

“Grandpa! Grandpa!” my five years old grandson Jason called from his bed. I looked at him with his little dragon's PJ's on. Jason always loved dragons and the stories about knights and all that, that's why I told him about the dragon riders. It's a good thing that he is only five years old and thinks everything is just was fairy tale.

“Yes, my grandson?” I asked seating beside him on his bed. He looked scared and I remember he was scare of thunders. I was going to tell him something when a thunder boomed illuminating outside.

“I'm...I'm scare” Jason said with watery eyes. The look he was giving me was tearing my heart apart, I couldn't see my grandson like that.

“And why are you scare?” I asked him knowing the answer, he was scared of the thunders. Right now the thunders were roaring like if they were the roar from a lion. That's when I got an idea, I waited for Jason to answer my question.

“T-the th-thunders outside” he said when a thunder boomed loud, making him jumped under the blankets. When I saw him jumped under the blankets I chuckled quietly.

I went to sat on his bed. “that's what you think they are?” I asked. He nodded in response under the blanket. I chuckled again and say “ for a moment I thought they were dragons roaring and fighting between them for their territory”

Jason looked out form his little fortress of blanket at the roof trying to heard anything when a thunder sounds on the distance. Jason looked at me with a big and wide grinned planted on his small face. His green-blue eyes sparking with relief at the thought of dragons fighting instead of thunders. Thinking of this make me laughed a little, how is possible that this little kid is afraid of thunders, but not dragons. This make Jason looked at me confused with a eyebrow raised.

“What's funny, grandpa?” Jason asked me. I just kept laughing some more and then I shook my head in disbelief. After I stopped laughing I heard water splashing against the window. I stood and walked toward the window and found that it just started raining. I went back to seat on the bed beside Jason waiting for he to fell asleep. “Can you tell me a story? Please” Jason said with pleading eyes.

“Yeah, what kind of story do you want to hear?” I said, and again I knew the answer. Dragons. I wait for him to tell me, but he just give the 'you know the answer already' look. I just chuckled at his little innocence.

“OK, but only one story and then to bed” I said and he just nodded. “Your grandma already scolded me for sending you to sleep late”

“OK, I'll promise” Jason said moving in to a seating position leaning against the headboard. I sat in a chair beside his bed.

“There once many years ago...” I said pausing. “ magnificent creatures ruled the skies along with the humans. These creatures were dragons, and live peacefully with the humans. Some of them even let the humans ride them...”

“But as always there was the evil, a evil dragon who hate the humans with all his might. He wants to had the power to ruled the humans and make them his slaves. And he almost did it with the help of the heartless ones.” I continued.

“The heartless ones? Who are the heartless ones, grandpa?” Jason asked me with his eyebrows raised in curiosity and confusion.

“The heartless ones were dark creatures who hate the peace that exist between the magical creatures and humans. They looked like a human and dragon's fusion. They have wings like dragons with talons of one too, but the humans' body. They fed from the fear and doubts of others” I replied him. “The dark dragons combine his force with the heartless ones to defeated the humans and the creature from the world.”

“The dark dragon and the heartless ones kill a lot of people and magical creatures that opposed to the dark dragon” Jason yawned and blinked a couple of times. I knew he would fell asleep soon, so I just kept on telling him the story until he fell asleep.

“Everyone feared the dark dragon and his followers the heartless ones” I continued. “Everyone except for four young dragon riders that have the four swords of light. They were the last dragon riders”

“What are the four swords of light?” Jason asked yawning. I just smiled at him.

“The four swords of light were magic swords created by wizards with old magic and the help of the trolls and elves. The swords gave magical powers to the dragon riders” I said “People said that the swords were the most powerful weapons of all times, and that only with the swords of light they could defeated the dark dragon. But something went wrong during the great battle against the dark dragon”

“What happened, grandpa?” Jason asked me with eagerness in his voice.

“When they were fighting the dark dragon, one of the dragon riders was killed. The dragon riders managed to make a spell to make the dragon sleep with the helped of their magic swords. After the great battle the last dragon warriors hided the swords of light” I said looking at Jason who was almost asleep.

“And where are the swords have somebody found them after they hide it?” Jason asked yawning.

“No, my son” I said. “But there's a prophecy” when Jason heard that he sat up quickly with tiredness, but curiosity in his blue-green eyes.

“What does the prophecy say?” Jason asked with curiosity and tiredness in his voice. He looked like he was almost asleep.

“The prophecy said...” I said looking at his eyes filled with eager eyes. four dragons and their raiders will find the weapons of light. And defeat the dark with the power of the heart and light. But only if they never doubt or fear or everything will end in darkness and fear” I recited the old prophecy.

“Wow, that's the prophecy?” Jason asked in awe. I just nodded and stood up.

“OK, now to sleep” I said leaning and giving him a kiss on his forehead. “Good night my grandson” I said walking to the door.

“Good nigh, grandpa” Jason said. “And thanks for the story” he mumble yawning. I turned the lights off.

“And good luck my son, you have a great destiny and roll to play in the future” I said walking out of the room. “But for now just enjoy your life”
