Yukiko ran as fast as she could towards the direction of the rabbits. She shouted Megumi's name, desperate to find him.
After 10 minutes of relentless panic surging through her head, she tried calming herself down.
"I can't just lash out. I need to calm down, Toji-kun, look over our son... please, don't let him die." She prayed to whatever God there was and calmed down eventually. She tried searching through the residue cursed energy that her son left.
It gave her the general direction of where he decided to go and she followed not long after noticing it.
Then she saw a small looking protective barrier almost.
But after looking closer at it, she noticed a a big hole in it. She felt her son's cursed energy.
"Fuck!" She swore and ran to get into that domain without any other thought, but to save her son. She jumped in and instantly decided to use her Domain Expansion, since the hole she saw was getting smaller by the second. Her son was going out of cursed energy.
She jumped in and finally made her sign to summon her most powerful technique.
"Okaa-san?" Megumi looked battered and tired out of him mind.
"Satoru always sends you on dangerous missions, next time I see him, I'll kill that bastard." She said and shouted the infamous name of her technique.
"Domain Expansion: Endless Abyss." She completely overpowered the one before her and everything came to a stop.
Everyone was suspended in her domain.
She only looked at Megumi for now. Not noticing anyone else besides him.
"Now listen and watch my last lesson to you, my beloved son." She said and diverted her attention to the curse and the man who seemed to be fighting him.
The girl in glasses asked the old man next to her who he was. And the moment she saw the man's face, her entire world crushed.
"Who is that?"
"A ghost." The old man replied as the woman finally snapped back to reality.
"Domain Expansion is your last and biggest trick up your sleeve. So think carefully before unleashing it... with your amount of cursed energy you might be able to summon it two or even three times, but the drawback will be harsh on you too..." She uttered, finally sounding like a mother, who was teaching her kid a lesson.
"Hanagasumi: Hazakura Senbon." She summoned her best weapon, after coming up to them closer and ripping his head cleanly off.
"You dared to touch our Megumi... I don't like anyone touching my precious things, so die." Her cold voice echoed and brought shivers down the spines of everyone else.
She threw the head down on the pitch black ground and let the senbon shower begin, leaving only a bloody mush behind.
Running up to Megumi, she released the technique and hugged him.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" She asked and Megumi just looked behind her with a little fear apparent in his eyes.
She turned back, as the man's dark and crazed expression made her little wary. She brought Megumi closer to herself.
"Toji-kun?" She mumbled, as the son and mother were instantly in another place.
"Toji-kun, stop it. It isn't funny... wait. But I buried your body already!" Late realization hit her and she went into protective mode.
"Don't make me do this." She said and layered herself and Megumi with infinity, quickly and surely draining her of her cursed energy.
He wasn't going easy on her, as he was swinging Playful Cloud around, three times the power he used during their previous duels.
"I see that you were never serious about our duels back then..." She missed his stab, but infinity stopped him, before he swung at her again.
"Okaa-san, who's that?" Megumi finally asked.
"Not the best time to ask, Gumi... shit..." She was knocked down and lost her concentration for a second, leading to the man stabbing her in her stomach.
She didn't let out a noise, not wanting to scare Megumi.
"Okaa-san!" He shouted and wanted to come closer, but energy left his body as he stumbled and fell on his knees.
"Toji-kun, what happened to you?" She just caressed the familiar face, she has started to forget after years of not seeing him.
The man was a bit shocked for a second and looked at Megumi curiously.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"Fushiguro Megumi." The boy replied with tears, as he looked at his mother, who was under the man, Playful Cloud buried deep in her stomach.
"I see... not Zennin, huh?" Toji diverted his attention onto the woman with a smile.
"He grew up to be amazing, didn't he, darling?" She couldn't stop looking at his face.
"He resembles you a lot as well... he loves ginger to death... you know..." She started coughing up blood with a soft smile, completely unaware of the situation happening before her. She remembered hearing that when you are at the brink of death, people say stupid shit, so she didn't care. She wanted to die without regrets. She decided to finally say what she wanted. 'Shit, that wasn't my plan, but nor did I expect to see you, my husband.' She looked at the man with so much happiness, good memories flooding her mind once again.
"He also asked me a couple of years ago, why his hair was so unruly... I told him that it was because of someone always messed with his hair in his childhood..." She coughed up more blood, remembering her husband's love of messing with Gumi's hair. She didn't stop there, but rather still continued her way down the memory lane once again.
"He grew up to be quite arrogant too, which makes me worry... no matter how much I tried drilling humility to him... sadly that white hair mop face... badly influenced him..." She chuckled through pain, as she didn't feel anything anymore.
"I wish we had more... time to spend... together as a family..." She hugged him, piercing herself with the weapon even deeper, not caring about consequences. As the last attempt to save her son she broke the Playful Cloud and held the sharp end to Toji's head. Her husband looked down at her with understanding eyes, fully grasping the situation beforehand.
"Megumi..." She looked back at him with the warmest of smiles she could muster.
"I planned on actually giving you and Tsumiki your mementos from me today... this is my wedding ring... you can do whatever you want with it... but I would love to see it passed down to your decendents someday..." She started to lose the power in her body and Toji just proved her up and held her arm that tightly clutched onto the weapon to his head. Toji took the ring from his wife's ring finger and clutched in in his bloody hand, wanting to give it himself, but remembering that Yukiko was losing her consciousness quite fast.
"Satoru... book... back home... the book... in the tatami floor... in our bedroom..." She mumbled, hazy vision disorienting her. Megumi just thrashed around, trying his hardest to come closer to his mother to hold her
"No... okaa-san... you can't die... no!" He started to scream but to no avail.
"We love you... and we are... proud of... you... Megumi... our beloved son..." She whispered her last words and kissed her husband, mustering all of the power left in her to pierce his head and save Megumi from being killed by him too.
Both of their bodies fell on the cold hard concrete under them.
After some mourning, the boy took the ring from his father's hand and added it onto the pendant that his mother gave him long time ago.
The boy wailed, as he lost both of his parents that day.
But little did he know, both of his parents passed away with smiles on their face, proud of their son.
After some time, he flipped the man, wanting to look closer look at his face, but somehow his face changed to that of the person that they were fighting on the high building with Yuji.
The thought that the body wasn't his father's crossed his mind and he thought back to his mother's words.
'Tatami floor. She probably meant their old house.' He couldn't get his mother's body out of here right now, but he vowed to bury her next to the real body of his father, as she seemed so sorrowful when she looked at him.
He deduced that she might have left all the answers to Megumi's question in the book, as they were her last words that she desperately muttered in pain.
After some deliberation, he told himself that he needed to finish all of this off, before searching for the answers in to his questions.
Some sudden rush of confidence started filling him up with energy, as he went to help his friends in order to end this chaos.

Japanese Translation:
Contrary to a popular belief "Sayounara" doesn't just mean goodbye.
It means - Farewell forever.
It means to be said with a connotation of not ever seeing that person ever again, as the name of the chapter implies.
