"So everyone's shift starts In 5, are you ready to meet them?" Chief teased as he sat smugly in his chair with his arm rested on his knee

"No- I mean how could I?" I groaned as i put my head in my hands

"Oh come on, you'll do great. Like the time you got all tongue tied at your presentation" he laughed and I glared

I remember that day like it was yesterday. Wallace was at my primary school taking the  place of my father who couldn't make it and I had to do a presentation on planets. I got a bit far into it before I got all tongue tied and ended up running off the stage. it was embarrassing

"Shushhhh, you said you'll never bring it up again Wallace" we both laughed, me more so to hide my embarrassment but he could tell I still was scared

"I lied. And hey- it's chief now" he snickered and stood up, which I copied
"Nah I'm kidding. Let's go" he walked out the room and I stood there still
"Come on" he said opening the door again, smiling and I sighed before following

Once we got in there everyone was sitting around the room and they looked to me and I shrunk back

"This is rain Jacob's, she's the new firefighter on truck 81" Wallace introduced

"Yes!" A girl shouted standing up
"Another girl on truck. Must be my lucky day" she walked over to me and hugged me
"I'm Gabby Dawson" she said looking down to me

"It's nice to meet you" I said to her. Others around the room came over to me and introduced themselves

"I'm Casey, the lieutenant of truck 81" I shook his hand and another guy came over

"Severide, lieutenant of squad" he shook my hand as well and then chief got our attention

"Chilli, Brett and Dawson. Can you show her around?"

"Of course" they said and we all walked off into the other direction

"Okay so this is the lieutenants offices and then the bunks are here for if you want to lie down or anything between calls" Brett explained

"is there anything I should know like about the firehouse that you want me to stay clear of or something?"

"Uh- yeah, Casey and Dawson are together" Brett said and we all laughed

"That's nice, but I don't do in house dating" they nodded

"Oh no, is there a backstory to go with that?"

"No, just got together broke up. That's all"

"Cool" chill said and walked off

"Is she okay? Did I say something?"

Gabby: "She's just going through something right now, and to add on to that, her and Jimmy broke up recently"

"Oh"

Brett: "Yeah, so your right about the in house dating thing. There's only a few good outcomes and it's only been Casey and Gabby so far"

Chief Boden's POV

"Rain Jacob's" Otis hummed
"Does that name sound familiar?" He asked everyone. I stood still slightly hoping they didn't think to deep into it
