3rd Person POV

when they got back to the camp, mitchie tied down the boat and she held her hand out to ronnie

"thanks mitch" she said as she grabbed her hand and got off the boat

"so when do you think tess will come get her stuff?" mitchie questioned as they walked to the boat alone

"well she does have all summer and so do we, we've only been here a day so i say we leave it alone and have the fun we can" she spoke and mitchie nodded

"hey i won't be able to sleep tonight can you show me some of your songs?" mitchie asked

"promise you won't tell anyone or show anyone mitch, these songs are my pressed possessions" she said as they walked into the cabin

"i won't tell or show anyone" mitchie said and she held out her pinkie

"where are peggy and ella?" ronnie asked

"right here" ella said and ronnie jumped

"you know you have a whole lot of energy for someone so small" ronnie said and ella giggled

"ronnie you coming?" mitchie asked and ronnie walked over to her bed as she grabbed her songbook

"so where are we going?" ronnie questioned

"it's your songs" mitchie exclaimed

"dock definitely the dock" she spoke and mitchie nodded as ronnie walked over and she grabbed the guitar that was leaning against the building

"let's go" she said and she strapped it to herself as she turned and walked to the dock. she stared at her songbook as she sat down with mitchie next to her

"sooo" mitchie said and ronnie looked up at her

"i've had this book since i was 11, that was 5 years ago mitchie. this holds every song i've ever written and done. there is a section of unreleased but written songs so i guess just go in there and find a song that grabs your attention" she spoke and she handed the songbook to mitchie

"be careful" she said and mitchie nodded as she flipped the pages and ran her hand along them

"these are amazing ron" she stated and ronnie smiled at her as she started to strum the strings on the guitar lightly with a smile on her face

"jackie and wilson? what's that one?" she said and ronnie ran a hand through her hair

"i actually love this one" ronnie spoke

"play it ron" she exclaimed and ronnie nodded as she grabbed the songbook and sat it down in front of her

LSo tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes
No better version of me I could pretend to be tonight
So deep in this swill with the most familiar of swine
For reasons wretched and divine
She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wild
Laughing away through my feeble disguise
No other version of me I would rather be tonight.
And, Lord, she found me just in time" ronnie sang and mitchie swayed as she listened closely

"Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young
She's gonna save me, call me "baby"
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy, soothe me daily
Better yet, she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus, be detectives
Ride 'round picking up clues
We'll name our children, Jackie and Wilson
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues" she continued with the chorus as mitchie started to drum against her legs and she smile

"Lord, it'd be great to find a place we could escape sometime
Me and my Isis growing black irises in the sunshine
Every version of me dead and buried in the yard outside
We'd sit back and watch the world go by
Happy to lie back watch it burn and rust
We tried the world, good God, it wasn't for us"
and the chorus came up again as ronnie bumped her shoulder with mitchie and they both laughed

"She's gonna save me, call me "baby"
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy, soothe me daily
Better yet, she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus, be detectives
Ride 'round picking up clues
We'll name our children, Jackie and Wilson
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues" and the bridge came up as she slowed down the guitar playing and closed her eyes

"Cut clean from the dream at night, let my mind reset
Looking up from a cigarette, and she's already left
I start digging up the yard for what's left of me and our little vignette
For whatever poor soul is coming next" the bridge ended as she played again and mitchie hit her legs again

"She's gonna save me, call me "baby"
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy, soothe me daily
Better yet, she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus, be detectives
Ride 'round picking up clues
We'll name our children, Jackie and Wilson
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues" she finished and she followed her book back up

"she?" mitchie questioned and she nodded

"there was a girl , her name was allison. i really did love her but i couldn't ever tell anyone and that made me sad. i wrote most of my songs about her" ronnie stated

"do you still write them about her?" mitchie asked and ronnie removed the guitar as she laid it in her lap and shook her head

"no, she um she moved on to bigger better things and i had to do the same thing. i think about her and us all the time though" ronnie sighed

"was she the first girl you loved?" mitchie said

"yeah she was, i think i was in love with her but it wasn't good for either of us" she said and mitchie slid closer as she let ronnie lay her head on her shoulder and mitchie laid her head on hers

" i'm glad you told me" mitchie whispered and ronnie nodded

" i trust you mitchie, truly" she said and mitchie smiled as they looked up at the sky that was full of stars

if only they had known that shane and nate were watching them from afar with smiles on their faces
