Burden of a New Generation

She sits there and plays with her bears
ignorant of the world that is around her.
Unaware of the inflation, politics, and wars
which tends to make life difficult out there.

I long for those days that used to be bright
when I was young, naïve and in a bubble.
It's easier to be happy when not in the fight
only worrying about staying out of trouble.

Yet as we grow, we become aware of a planet
that is far from perfect, even grossly unfair.
Far too young to realize the distant threat
but one day we'll all be old enough to care.

It's dishonest to burden the next generation
butthey'll carry the baton and still have fun.
