It's been three days since I went back to my house. Three days of completely ignoring my mother when I would see her either in the kitchen or in her usual lounge chair in the living room drinking a glass of wine.
I can't when look at her without feeling a pang of hurt stabbing through my chest.
I called up Ms. Camille and asked if I could work extra hours at the diner. And since she plans to stay home with her children that drove down to visit her, she was happy to put me in charge of the place until she returns.
Putting on a simple outfit as well as my name tag, I grab my bag and head downstairs to leave for work.
Noticing my mother in the living room, I walk past her toward the door and right when I grab the doorknob, I hear her call out my name.
"Giannina."
I close my eyes with a sigh and plaster a fake smile before turning around to face her.
"Yes?" I ask. Keeping my tone neutral.
She's looking at me with furrowed brows as she takes a sip of her wine.
"You've been avoiding me."
Yeah, no shit.
What makes her think I would want to hang out with her or be around her when she doesn't even want me?
I simply just shrug and place my phone in my pocket. "I've been busy."
She only hums at that and goes back to looking out the window.
I wait another minute to see if she would say anything else and when she doesn't, I turn back around leave the house.
Work was uneventful. Since the majority of people are home spending time with their families, the diner has been pretty slow.
I called to ask if I was able to close down early and when I got the 'ok', I started wiping down the tables and closing up the cash register before leaving at 9pm.
As I'm driving home, I get a call from Vincent.
"Hello?" I call out through the Bluetooth connected to my car.
