A strong grip wrapped around the younger man's waist as he laid in bed, watching the storm take place right outside his window.

His room was gently illuminated by his lamp, the atmosphere warm and cozy. It was silent, all that was heard were the gentle breaths being taken by the two men.

Luke laid behind Michael, arm wrapped protectively around his princess. He admired the way his bestfriends eyes kept fluttering shut, feeling so comfortable that he could fall asleep at any moment.

It was a perfect moment Luke thought.

The blonde dipped his head to rest in the crook of Michaels neck before whispering, careful not to alarm the sleepy man in his arms.

"How was that coffee date with Cal?"

Michael hummed before turning his body to face Luke, a sleepy smile gracing his pretty lips. The same lips Luke has been wanting to kiss since the last time he did all those years ago.

"It was good, we just.. talked, about everything, about you."

The older man hummed, bringing a hand up to move some hair away from Michaels face. He had to admit, hearing that they spoke about him, especially in Calums presence, sets off a few bells in his head.

"About me? What about me sweetheart?" The man asked quietly, running his fingers through the younger man's hair. Michael was being lulled to sleep by the action, humming contently.

"About how you were when Calum left, the kind of friend you were to us both."

"Hopefully a good one."

"The best one."

Michael had that sweet smile return to his face, watching the older man with such a fond expression. Luke really was his everything, he dealt with him since childhood and even now when he cried, he knew he could count on the blonde to hold him.

He could always count on him.

Luke had a soft smile resting on his peaceful face, it was a nice moment to share, to embrace the little angel for as long as he could.

"Lu?"

"Yes angel?"

"Calum uh.. he- uh-"

"What did he do?" Luke asked, quickly sitting up. Panic and anger quickly settled in his chest. He didn't like the tone Michael was using, he didn't like that it had to do with Calum Hood. He knew he can trust the both of them, but to be honest..

Did he really?

Michael shook his head so quickly it could've given him whiplash. He sat up to take Lukes face in his hands to try and calm the older man down.

"No! Oh- god no he didn't do- no! Lulu he didn't do anything wrong, he just uh.. he asked me to be his friend."

Lukes eyes widened before softening at the confession before him, seeing the way Michaels stance visibly faltered after saying it. They both knew Michael didn't have any friends growing up, it was always him and Luke. Being able to say he had another friend made him feel ecstatic yet vulnerable.

He was finally letting another person in.

"Oh angel.. and what did you say?"

Michael smiled softly, looking up at his friend with teary eyes, not ones of sadness, but pure joy.

"I.. I said yes, Lu I have another friend!"

Luke couldn't help but smile so widely that his face hurt, it was such a beautiful scene, seeing his bestfriend cry out of happiness. Not fear, doubt, sadness, or anxiety. He was happy.

The older man couldn't help but pull his bestfriend into his chest, hugging him as tightly as humanly possible. He saw the shakes of what would've been sobs, and as much as he would've been concerned, he knew the reasoning behind it. He knew Michael was overjoyed.

"You're doing so well angel! Look at you, being a little social butterfly!" The blonde whispered, pressing gentle kisses to the boys feathery hair.

Michaels stomach felt funny at the action, it's almost like he was the one having butterflies, not him being one himself.

A soft blush coated his cheeks as he only smiled impossibly wider.

"I have two now, I have you and Cal. Lu I'm just so.. happy. I'm really happy."

The taller one of the two pulled away to gently kiss away the tears that stained the others puffy cheeks, a gentle smile returning to both their faces.

"I love seeing you happy darling, you deserve it more than anyone I've ever known."

Silence followed after, just the two of them watching each other with unknowing looks. Luke knew what it was, he's been looking at Michael this way his entire life, but Michael? Not a clue.

He didn't understand why his eyes were so drawn to Lukes pretty lips, or why his heart started beating faster. He didn't understand why his face felt warm or why his grip on Lukes face softened, his padded fingers running over the skin gently.

He didn't understand what he was feeling.

But Luke did.

The dirty blonde just sighed and pressed his face against his older friends chest, cuddling back into him. A low chuckle could be heard before Luke wrapped his arms around his little angel, moving to lay back down.

And so they laid there in each others arms for the remainder of the storm, each crackle of thunder scaring the poor boy out of his light slumber. Luke would find it cute, the way his small frame would jump slightly and he'd whine in annoyance.

Luke found everything he did cute.

The blonde hummed and closed his eyes in thought. What did Calum really think of him, seeing as the coffee date allowed the two to grow closer, allowed Michael to be happier.

His fingers danced along Michaels back as he smiled softly. Maybe letting the younger man go out with his friend wasn't such a bad idea, maybe life from here can be calm.

But it's always calm before the storm.
